My new rescue puppy has a runny nose, sneezing, and fleas. What now?

Coso is probably recovering from an upper respiratory infection or cold, or kennel cough. This may take another week or two to fully resolve. As long as he's eating and acting normal it's nothing to be overly concerned about. Should he stop eating, be lethargic or the sneezing doesn't clear up in a week or so then a veterinary exam is in order. Puppies often get sick when together especially in a shelter or rescue situation and heal quickly once in a home with better care and nutrition. Poor Miko! It sounds like she probably has an upper respiratory infection of some kind - this is very common in dogs who have come from a shelter or rescue environment with lots of other dogs. I would recommend taking her to the vet to have this checked, since she will probably need a course of antibiotics to treat the infection.

Allergies are not common in a puppy but they can occur. More common would be an infection. I recommend to have him examined by a veterinarian. New pets should generally have an exam soon after they are adopted to test for worms which could spread to humans and have an over all health assessment. I hope this helps.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Coco!! Since she is such a young baby and because of her breed I think she should see a Vet as soon as you can. Also since it has now been 2 days and she is less energetic. Coco may have an upper respiratory infection from a viral or bacterial infection, or kennel cough, or pneumonia or the flu. The Vet, after their exam, may recommend chest X-rays and likely will prescribe antibiotics. I hope this helps and I hope Coco is back to her cute Pug self soon!

From the pictures, it looks like there is nasal discharge, but I can't tell if it is clear or yellow/white. Many times a cold or upper respiratory tract infection is viral and just needs to run its coarse. You can support him by using a humidifier or being in a bathroom with a steamy shower for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times per day. This will help break up the mucous. If the discharge has a yellow or green color, this may indicate a bacterial infection and he would need antibiotics to get over it, so you you should see the vet. There are other potential causes for the symptoms you have mentioned, including distemper virus and possibly others based on your location in India. If Shadow does not seem interested in food, won't drink water, or is lethargic, he should see a vet as soon as possible. I am sorry that Shadow's mom died. At around 4 weeks old, the mom starts to wean the puppies off. If he has not already been eating puppy food, I would recommend getting wet puppy food that you can mix with puppy milk replacer for the next week. If he eats it well, you can transition him to dry puppy food with water or milk added the next week, and then after that he should be ok on just dry puppy food. During this whole time always keep a bowl of fresh clean water available.
