Why does my puppy have red, pus-filled bumps on his body and genitals?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!

It looks like you've done a lot to help this little guy. I'm sure the vet would have told you this, but make sure you are stimulating him to poop after each feeding by wiping his bum with a warm, moist, tissue or soft cloth. Puppies commonly get this on their bellies and they usually go away with good cleaning. I recommend cleaning the belly with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bump(s) are gone. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take him into the vet for an exam. It looks like she may have puppy pyoderma, which is a skin infection. The skin of the puppy is quite sensitive, and it can be common for them to get this skin infection around the genital area and stomach. This is called puppy pyoderma. It’s a mild skin infection that puppies often get. You can bathe the area with anti bacterial shampoo every few days and that should clear it up. Poor Tank! That rash looks pretty severe. It could be something like an allergic reaction, scabies, flea allergy or a severe case of puppy pyoderma. Because there are several conditions that can look like this and they all require different treatment, I recommend to take Tank in to see his veterinarian. The doctor will examine him and try to determine the cause for all those lesions. It’s likely he will get an anti-inflammatory and antibiotics. If parasites are suspected, he will get a treatment for those as well. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello, this looks like a very mild staph infection, very common in very young puppies. You can bathe your puppy with a mild antibacterial soap or shampoo, one with benzoyl peroxide or chlorhexidine. Allow the soap to remain in contact with the skin for 5-10 minutes before rinsing. Repeat this 1-2x a week & the skin should look better soon.
