My puppy's gums are red, inflamed, bleeding. Is it normal teething?

Great job brushing Luca’s teeth!! Brushing regularly makes such a difference in oral heath long term! I would not be worried about a small amount of blood on the brush at all! We often see this if the gums are a little inflamed, either from a little gingivitis or from teething in a puppy. You can use a wet, soft cloth to wipe the area that bled a little if there is still blood on the teeth. Make sure you are using a very soft bristled, small toothbrush. Wet the brush before using, and apply a pea sized amount of toothpaste. If you are just starting to brush, you may even want to just use your finger with veterinary tooth paste on it and rub it on teeth and gums for a week or so to start, then work up to the toothbrush. This is fine. The gums appear healthy with no signs of infection or excessive damage. The gums bleed quite easily, so I wouldn't be too worried about it being very painful. I think that at-most the mouth would feel mildly sore. I hope that helps and gives some peace of mind.

Jasper will be losing his baby teeth for about another 6 weeks (until he is 6 months old). His adult teeth are currently pushing out his baby teeth, so his gums are more sensitive and easier to bleed right now. If the bleeding continues after his adult teeth are all in, I would certainly recommend having your veterinarian examine his gums to make sure they are healthy. Good luck! Hi Dilan, It is quite normal for a puppy's gums to bleed when they are teething and chewing on things. Gums can bleed more easy with gum disease, but a puppy that age would not have gum disease, so need to worry about that right now. I hope that helps and all is well with Toby.

Puppies are in the process of teething from 12 weeks to 6-7 months of age, so it's completely normal to see an occasional baby tooth with a bloody root on the floor during this time :) Often, there will also be small streaks of blood on toys or chew items - this is because the pup's gums are bleeding a little, and is also normal. All of his adult teeth should be coming in within the next 2-4 weeks, so after that the problem should resolve on its own.

If her appetite is decreased from this then I would have it checked. At her age she may be teething and loosing some baby teeth which can cause blood but puppies are also known for eating things they aren't supposed to and she may have injured her gums. If she is eating and acting fine, then you can monitor it for 24 hours to see if there are any changes.

Oh my. At this age your pet shouldn't have too much dental disease to cause bleeding gums. This is definitely not normal and I worry that Abdul may either have a bleeding disorder (which can only be diagnosed and treated through your vet) or there may be multiple cuts in the mouth from something sharp your pet recently chewed on. I would highly recommend taking Abdul in to your vet to have them examine the mouth asap since a bleeding disorder is a possibility here. If there are cuts in the mouth that is causing this, then an oral rinse and oral pet friendly anti-inflammatory medicaiton will likely be prescribed. I hope that you get some resolve for Abdul soon for his very strange sudden bleeding gum disorder. Best wishes and take care.
