My puppy has a rash and pimples all over. Is it puppy strangles?

I accidentally posted that answer before I was done. Puppy strangles is a rare condition where the body seems to attack its own skin. Your veterinarian will likely do skin tests to rule out more common causes of skin disease first (mites and ringworm for example). The sooner he is diagnosed, he can begin treatment if necessary. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. These bump are pustules, so yes, sort of like acne but it is really inflammation of the hair follicles. It can be the beginning of puppy strangles so still continue to look out for that. You have two options: 1. Do nothing and just monitor them and let their immune systems take care of it as long as they are otherwise fine. OR 2. You can use these medicated pads once daily on the affected areas until the issue is resolved. There is also the possibility of him having a condition called puppy strangles, which will cause spread of rather large pimples to his face, ears and neck area, and these pimples can then rupture causing discomfort for your pet. It is hard to say for sure which is likely here without a good visual of the area. I recommend considering reposting your question with a photo for a more tailored answer. If the pimples are small however, they are likely just an allergic reaction and may go away on their own, especially if there are just a few. This is called puppy pyoderma. It’s a mild skin infection that puppies often get. You can bathe the area with anti bacterial shampoo every few days and that should clear it up. If it is getting worse or the puppies seem sick then bring them in for a exam and treatment. They may need oral antibiotics. Also make sure the bedding is soft and dry. Hi there! Puppies get "puppy pyoderma" often which often presents as you have shown in the pictures. This is very common, and easy to treat. Sometimes antibiotics are not required and they go away on their own. If the rash spreads, etc. you can always make an appointment to see your veterinarian to make sure fleas or allergies are not contributing factors! My best to you an Milli. Hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!

Poor Tyson! This sounds like an allergy or a skin infection of some kind - both of these often cause lots of itchy bumps like this. He will probably need prescription medication (a steroid and/or antibiotics) to treat the problem effectively, so I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam when you are able to. In the meantime, you can try bathing him in an aloe and oatmeal dog shampoo to help soothe his skin and temporarily relieve the itching - this will not treat the underlying problem causing the bumps, but may help to make him a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.
