Why does my puppy poop when nervous meeting new dogs outside?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely just him needing to get used to going out to defecate with someone else. I would recommend that when he is taken outside by that person, that they give him a longer time to go potty while he gets used to them. This should get better on its own. Best of luck!

Hello. Probably not. Exercise can & will facilitate bowel movements, & the faster stool moves through the bowels, the less water is absorbed making the stools a little softer. This may be just normal for your pup. If anything changes, of course discuss this with your veterinarian, but if everything else is OK, I would not be too worried. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I wouldn’t worry yet at just 36 hours. Some dogs are particular about their pooping habits. As long as she is eating, playful and not straining give her more time. If she can urinate in her own she can poop on her own. You can also call the person you got her from to double check what she did with them. Since you are seeing your vet tomorrow she should be fine. Have a good day!

These signs can definitely be due to nerves or the anxiety of being in a new place. It is hard for puppies to be separated from their littermates or mothers, go in a car they've never been in, and be surrounded by people they've never met. He likely won't take very long to adjust- young puppies tend to feel like part of the family very quickly - it sounds like he is playing already! He should get an appetite and start eating a puppy diet well. There should be a recommended feeding amount on the side of the puppy food bag. His stools should start to firm up - if they remain soft or become liquidy, he may have gastrointestinal parasites/worms that need to be treated - even if wherever you got him from treated him already. Just like with any biological system that is so complex, elimination habits are going to be variable depending on many factors such as composition of the food ingested, digestion, absorption of nutrients, and the transit time of the material in the intestines. As long as everything else is normal, it's completely within normal limits for times of elimination to vary. Just think about yourself and your patterns and understand that with very complex physiological systems, variability will always be present and probably normal. That is odd. I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian to look at his nerves in his hind legs, lower back and rectal tone. The vet may recommend an x-ray as well to look at the spine (sometimes tail-less breeds can have deformed vertebra and that could be pinching a nerve). A problem with the innervation of the anus could allow this to happen. You should also have the stool checked for parasites just to be safe. Make sure Jasper is being taken out for bathroom breaks every 2-3 hours. Feeding him a low residue diet like Royal Canin may also help to decrease the amount of stool he produces. These measures would help if this is a sudden urge to defecate and he can't hold it. This could also be behavioral and related to excitement/submission though this would be highly unusual. Most commonly, puppies will urinate and they typically outgrow it. If Mia still has not had a BM by tomorrow, make sure to mention it to the vet. If she does, it is a good idea to collect in in a plastic bag so that they can use it to check for intestinal parasites, which are common in puppies. I usually recommend that you continue to feed the food she was on from the breeder to avoid digestive upset. Make sure she has access to clean, fresh water, which will help keep stools moist and easy to pass.
