My puppy's poop has a grey film. Should I be worried or concerned?

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 4 months and 17 days old | 60 lbs

My puppy just went poop and it seems to almost have a greyish film on it. What could this mean?

This could be due to the presence of mucous coming from the last part the intestine. It may be compatible with colitis, which is an inflammation, usually dietary related.
As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.
I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

Hi, has Bentley been wormed regularly ? If so, I would not worry.. the mucous film is just related to what he has eaten and he has been digesting in his tummy. If he hasn't been wormed I recommend to see a vet and bring over a poo sample.

Bentley may just have had a GI upset if it was just 2 episodes of loose stool and he seems fine now. You can withhold food for 12 hours then feed a smaller meal than than normal to help rest his GI tract.
If he continues to have diarrhea or begins vomiting as well I would recomend a vet visit to find out the cause. Diarrhea can be from intestinal parasites, eating something he shouldn't, viral or bacterial infection among other things.

Why is my puppy's poop dark, soft, and grey after new food?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Personally the color doesn't bother me but the consistency does. That is diarrhea. It is too soft and not formed. I would go back to the Royal Canin food as it sounds like he digests that one better. Be sure though that he has had his stool tested for intestinal parasites and is up to date on his DHPP vaccines. My puppy has soft, grey stool. Is it EPI, and when should I see a vet?

EPI generally not an emergency at this stage and there are other causes of stool discoloration. I recommend to have Myles seen by his normal veterinarian (as long as he seems normal/happy) and have the stool checked for parasites and bacterial over growth. The doctor may recommend treatment based upon the results and then you wait and see how things okay out. I do recommend to feed pets a highly digestible diet such as Royal Canin. I have seen many puppies with bowel abnormalities that normalize eating this diet. EPI does typically present as a greyish stool with a shiney coating (that’s the fat in the stool). The pets also usually are slow to grow and gain weight poorly. If this is suspected, your doctor will testing to diagnose the condition. My puppy's poop has clear jelly. Is this normal? What should I do?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You are seeing some mucous on the stool. Mucous usually occurs when there is some inflammation in the colon. In a young dog, it could be parasites, something odd he ate, or it indicates a sensitivity to something like an allergen. If he is feeling well, eating normally, then I would not be too concerned. If he has not had a stool check done, I would definitely have it evaluated by your veterinarian. He may need to have his diet changed, but I would not just start buying different puppy foods. If you continue to see the mucous, please call your vet. Take care.
