Most puppies will stay on their normal pooping schedule unless the dewormer causes GI upset, in which case it could be anywhere from 1 hour to the next day. If there are worms in the intestines who are susceptible to the dewormer, you will likely see them passing out in the feces within 12 hours. Also keep in mind, that you may miss a low parasite burden and that not all worms are visible to the naked eye. I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. It typically takes anywhere from 24-48 hours for a dewormer to take effect. Don't be alarmed if you see dead worms in Finn's feces, it means the deworming treatment is working. It will usually take two deworming treatments for all the worms to be killed. The first kills the adults already present, while the second kills the worms that had not yet hatched at the time of the first treatment.

He will get rid of the worms and you will see them in the feces later. The medications take 4 hours at least to reach right concentration in the blood stream and spread all around effectively.

It may take several hours. If not passed any feces in 24 hours I would recommend a check up, but Percy will for sure pass feces by that time. Occasional constipation may happen when a large quantity of worms die, you could possibly add some mineral oil/liquid paraffin to the diet (2-5mls would be ok every meal for the next 48hours). No, it would be highly unlikely to see worms in every stool. Worms only pass through the stool intermittently, just as they only shed their eggs intermittently. Be sure that the deworming medication that you purchased is appropriate for the type of worms that are present. If Diamond's worms resemble spaghetti, they are likely roundworms, whereas if they resemble grains of rice, they are likely tapeworms. Tapeworms can be a bit trickier to treat and will likely require prescription based dewormers from your vet. As fair warning, if Diamond has a large burden of worms, she may vomit or have diarrhea with worms present, but this is usually short-lived. I hope that all goes well!

Often you will not see the dead worms in the feces unless your pet had a very severe infection. Sometime dead worms will get digested or come out in the same color as the feces. The worms should be dead pretty soon (24 hrs) after worming.

My puppy was dewormed for worms, hasn't pooped in 24 hrs. Obstruction?

IF she is eating and playful with no vomiting, then I would not worry about an obstruction at this point. She may not have reinfected herself, she may have had a high worm burden and the first round of medicine just did not get all of them. She should be checked in a week to see if there are any left to see a dewormer will need to be repeated.

I would not be concerned about it just yet. This is not atypical for the bowels to be a little irregular after deworming. Just monitor your pet for the next 24 hrs for any straining (tyring to poop but can't) or diarrhea. If that occurs then it is best to get Graham Cracker evaluated by your vet for further care. But for now it is a bit premature to make that determination that your pet needs help.

You may or may not see worms in his diarrhea. The side effects of the diarrhea and lethargy should only last 24-48 hours after giving the worming treatment. If they continue longer than that, or if Kiba becomes lethargic or refuses to eat or drink, you should take him into your vet for an exam.

Why is my puppy still pooping worms a day after taking Heartgard?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! HeartguardPlus has pyrantel as an ingredient, which kills adult and immature intestinal parasites. Depending on the stage of infection, it can take several days for all of the adult worms to die and be passed in the feces. It is normal to see different types of worms in the feces, as this product kills several types of worms, which are very common in puppies. If you notice that your puppy is continuing to have diarrhea after several days, I recommend bringing a stool sample from Blaze to your vet to determine which parasites are present.
