My puppy has a large pimple-like bump on his stomach. Vet needed?

Hello, Thanks for the good picture. I agree that it does look like a solitary pimple, very well could be from an insect sting initially. I would just monitor this for now. If it spreads into many pimples, a larger sore, or an itchy rash, those would be reasons to have him seen by his veterinarian to ensure he doesn't have a skin infection that requires treatment. You can use a warm compress with saline or epsom salt water on the area for a few minutes twice per day. Otherwise, don't apply any ointments and just let it stay dry and open to air. Pimple type bumps can be a sign of a bacterial infection of the skin that often require antibiotic therapy to treat. I would recommend setting up an appointment with Bella's vet for an exam and they can prescribe antibiotics if that is what she ends up needing!

The picture you posted does not look like a pimple, so I am worried that it is actually a mass. Anytime a new mass is noticed, I always recommend having it evaluated to see what it is and if anything needs to be done about it. Unfortunately, we often can't tell anything about a mass by just looking at it. Your vet can perform a simple test called a fine needle aspirate where they use a small needle to collect some cells from the mass, then look at them under the microscope. They may even need to send the cells to the lab for a pathologist to examine them, so we know what the mass is. If it is benign, you might not need to do anything about the mass at all, but if they see cells that worry them, they might recommend removing the mass. If the area is infected, then your veterinarian may prescribe oral or injectible antibiotics to resolve it. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Hi there! I'm so sorry to read about Choco's troubles. It looks like he has a pustule. This is basically a pimple-like lesion caused very often by a staph infection. Sometimes the lesions are singular, or sometimes they can spread and get worse. If I have dog come in to see me with pustules, I will often prescribe a medicated shampoo to help clean the skin and also moisturize it. Dry skin can cause a break in the skin barrier and allow bacteria to congregate. I also will often times prescribe a course of oral antibiotics, to insure that the infection doesn't spread, and goes away quickly. I would monitor the lesion, and make an appointment to see Choco's veterinarian. They can evaluate Choco's skin and make sure there is nothing else going on, and see if the infection is severe enough for topical and oral medications. I hope you find this answer helpful! I suspect that these are little bumps are due to a bacterial infection (pyoderma). Puppies commonly get this on their bellies and they usually go away with good cleaning. I recommend cleaning the belly with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bump(s) are gone. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take Mia into the vet for an exam. It looks like she may have puppy pyoderma, which is a skin infection. The skin of the puppy is quite sensitive, and it can be common for them to get this skin infection around the genital area and stomach. This does need to be treated by a vet, she needs antibiotics, so I recommend you make an appointment for her to see her vet this week to get it treated. I hope this helps!
