Why does my puppy pee on blankets instead of using her pee pads?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Toffee is very young! I think the problem likely arises from the people that are taking care of her. They may not know how to pick up on her cues that she has to go, are playing with her and distracting her too long and not realizing it is time to stop and let her go to the bathroom. At almost 3 months old it is common to have accidents. She is likely more distracted by the relatives. I would start with teach them to take Toffee too her pee pads more often. If your puppy is only (or mostly only) urinating on these blankets and beds it is probably behavioral. But, because you don’t want him to start spreading this habit to other things in the house, I would recommend not giving him toys/blankets/beds like this so it discourages the habit. Hi there and thank you for using PetCoach to address your concern. Bo is still quite young and him urinating inside is something that he should eventually grow out with training. Positive reinforcement with treats whenever he urinates outside and defecates outside will help reinforce him going outside. I've had great success with recommending Fresh Patch. This is a patch of grass in a cardboard box with absorbent material underneath the grass and you place this in the house. Bo will use this real grass to go to the bathroom short term. I would recommend starting by placing the grass in the area where he has been urinating and then gradually moving the patch of grass closer and closer to the door to the outside until eventually the grass patch is outside of the house and he is using it there. I've had so many clients have success stories with potty training their puppy because of this product. It is basically a patch of grass that you order online that comes in a cardboard box that auto-ships to you to replace the used one. I would look into this and try it out to see if it helps more than the puppy pad. I hope this helps! More frequent walks outside may also help stop this inappropriate urination and then rewarding him when he does urinate outside every time will help reinforce him going outside. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The easiest way is by using the pads and the training spray which makes them identify where they should urinate. I usually recommend that at the beginning you start by adding pads in just one place in the house so that they get used to urinating in only one spot. This usually works very well. Positive reinforcement is of course also important so giving her treats when she does go in the pad is very important so that she associates going in the pad with something positive. Good luck!
