My puppy's head is so oily after ringworm. What shampoo helps?

Although it would technically be safe for use on her skin, it can cause significant concerns if it gets into her eyes or is ingested at all. Avoid using any human shampoos on dogs and stick with those formulated specifically for use in dogs. If Tinky truly has ringworm, she should be assessed by a veterinarian so that appropriate anti fungal medications and shampoos can be given.

You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. Hello. You need to be very careful giving a puppy anything for itching. Unfortunately, anti-histamines rarely work in dogs. The lime sulfur dips will get rid of the ringworm, so as soon as you start these, he will be more comfortable. Make sure the water temp is cool, as this is the most soothing to itchy, irritated skin. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Without a fungal culture, it is very difficult to definitively diagnose ringworm. There are a lot of skin issues that can look red, crusty or flaky & not all of them will be ringworm. Using a combination of antifungal & antibacterial products is a great idea. For any shampoo, make sure the lather stays on the skin for at least 10 minutes before rinsing. If there is no improvement after about 3 weeks, or the skin lesions get worse, please have your veterinarian examine them

Ringworm is a fungal infection that is highly contagious and can spread if it keeps getting messed with. It is also usually treated with topical medications and shampoos. It would be best to talk with your vet about getting a prescription shampoo to treat the ringworm with, and to place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Baby to keep her from pawing at the spot and irritating it more. Be sure to also thoroughly wash hands and clothing after handling her, and keep her separated from other pets until healed.
