Why is my 10-week puppy not eating and throwing up white foam?

Hi, my 10 week old puppy has barely eaten. I got him a couple days ago and he has drank water and ate a little bit of food but he started throwing up white foam and won’t eat all all please help

I'm sorry to hear that Melow isn't eating well for you. It is normal for a puppy not to eat a lot the first day in a new home. It can be a stressful transition. However, it is abnormal for the lack of appetite to last several days. The vomiting is not normal either. Melow need to see a veterinarian. He is so young, I worry about him becoming dehydrated. Even if he is drinking some, it is likely less than if he was eating normally. He may require fecal testing and deworming or more aggressive care depending on his exam findings.

Do your best to encourage him to eat and drink. You can add warm water to his dry kibble. Some dogs like canned food warmed up a bit as well. Change the water frequently and continue to offer it to him. Good luck and I hope Melow is feeling better soon!

My puppy is throwing up white foam. Is it serious? What to do?

This is likely to be due either to dietary indiscretion or possibly to a infective gastroenteritis. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. My 11-week puppy isn't eating, is skinny, and threw up yellow foam.

Poor Oso. Unfortunately there are a lot of different reasons that could be causing him to act like this like parasites (worms), giardia, a bacterial infection, a foreign body, an intestinal obstruction and much more. I would have your vet take a look at him since he is so small. They will likely do a fecal to look for worm eggs - you usually will not be able to see the actual worms in their poop. They may also recommend blood work or x-rays if needed. They will be able to get him on the proper meds to help him feel better. Also, I would try not to get into the habit of hand feeding him as he may get use to this and require it as he gets older for attention. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Blacky. I recommend seeking veterinary care for him as soon as possible. Several weeks is way too long for a puppy to go without proper nutrition. Based on his exam findings, fecal testing will be recommended to look for any intestinal parasites or other intestinal infections. Based on these results, either treatment can be recommended or further testing if necessary. He may require deworming medication, antibiotics and fluids to rehydrate him. At less than two months old, your puppy needs to eat regularly or he risks having low blood sugar, which can cause serious health problems. This does sound serious and it most likely is not related to PanPan’s recent vaccinations. He may have developed an infection, he could have intestinal parasites, or he may have eaten something that is causing an intestinal obstruction. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian as soon as possible.

My puppy vomiting white fluid, not eating for days. What's wrong?

It certainly sounds as though Beast is quite sick. Some of the more common reasons for vomiting and not eating in young dogs are a foreign body intestinal obstruction/blockage, parasites and stomach upset from eating inappropriate food. I'm glad to hear that Beast has been vaccinated because this makes diseases, like parvovirus, much less likely. Since he is such a young puppy, he will be more sensitive to the effects of dehydration from vomiting. A vet should examine Beast, possibly perform abdominal x-rays, and institute any necessary fluid therapy and deworming.
