What are these blisters around my puppy's mouth? What's causing them?

Based on the picture, I would suspect something infectious such as a virus or bacterial infection. It could be a severe case of acne but it is a different presentation than I've seen before. I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. That lesion looks very inflamed. It’s possible it’s a reaction to something he chewed on but an infection is also possible. I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian to rule out something more severe like a tooth root abscess. He may also get medication to help heal the lesion. Best of luck.

I accidentally posted that answer before I was done. Puppy strangles is a rare condition where the body seems to attack its own skin. Your veterinarian will likely do skin tests to rule out more common causes of skin disease first (mites and ringworm for example). The sooner he is diagnosed, he can begin treatment if necessary. It could be an infection or possibly an auto-immune disease. Have your vet take a look at the lesions to determine the exact cause. Your vet can do a biopsy, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat the problem. He may need an antibiotic and/or an anti-inflammatory.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. These bump are pustules, so yes, sort of like acne but it is really inflammation of the hair follicles. It can be the beginning of puppy strangles so still continue to look out for that. You have two options: 1. Do nothing and just monitor them and let their immune systems take care of it as long as they are otherwise fine. OR 2. You can use these medicated pads once daily on the affected areas until the issue is resolved. She could have a skin infection (in which case don't pop the pustules) or a rare condition known as puppy strangles. Her doctor will be able to differentiate and recommend treatment. Common cause of hair loss include mites, ringworm and allergies. An allergy can be to something in her diet, environment or even fleas. The veterinarian will examine her and ask questions about her lifestyle. Skin testing may be recommended. Based on these results, treatment can be started. I hope this information helps!
