My puppy has itchy scabs and dry spots. Is it mange or something else?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 1 day old | 15 lbs

My puppy (bernedoodle) had a dry spot on his skin, like a raised scab-like dot the size of a lady bug on his neck. A day later he had about 10 of these scabby spots. He is constantly itching this area, so i am wondering if he is just cutting his own skin or if he has some sort of infestation. I cant take a picture because he is moving too much. I think it might be mange, so i was planning to treat it with apple cider vinegar. What is your opinion? Thanks a bunch in advance!!

It could be caused by many different things. He could have demodex, ringworm, flea allergy dermatitis, scabies, etc. Since he is constantly itching, he should be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. Your vet can do a skin scrape, culture, cytology, etc. to help diagnose and then prescribe the best medications to treat. I do not think apple cider vinegar will give him the relief that he needs.
