Why do my 5-month-old puppies pant heavily, even when resting?

The increased respiratory rate could be from him dissipating heat but it could also be pathological. I cannot tell you for sure just based on your description. I suggest you take a video of him breathing heavy at rest and then take him in to your vet for an examination. Show the vet the video and see what they think. The vet will take that video combined with their examination findings and let you know if it seems like his breathing is normal or abnormal. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

If you have noticed a change in her breathing pattern and she appears to have labored breathing, I would recommend getting her in to be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Hi, a puppy of 3 months old is too young o be left alone at night outside. i suggest bringing him in and keeping him in a crate to keep him comfortable. Make sure he has plenty of cool water and is an a controlled climate. Keeping him inside where it is cool is better for him. I would keep an eye on his breathing, and the color of his gums. They should be pink like a human's gums, not pale or blue. if they are pale or bluish he is having trouble breathing and needs to see a vet as soon as possible or he could die. You can also take his temperature. A dog's temperature should be between 99.5-102.5F. If it is higher, he needs to be cooled off with cool water until you can get to a vet for medications. If it is lower, then he needs warmth. Either way, a too low or high temperature is cause for a trip to the vet when your vet opens. Good luck, i hope this helps!

If this breathing heavy is only occurring when Tater is resting, it could be that he is dreaming and his breathing is changing in response to the dreams. Dogs dream and they can show behaviors such as barking, leg movement, and breathing changes in response to their dreams. Given that he is fine otherwise, I would monitor him for now, but certainly it's okay to have him seen by a vet just in case to make sure everything is ok health wish with him :-)

This is probably normal for your puppy but if you are concerned then I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian. I would recommend bringing him in for an exam. Sometimes rapid breathing can be a sign of discomfort or illness. It is possible he may need a few rounds of deworming, or could have an infection and associated fever. Either way, around 8 weeks is when he should be getting his first round of vaccines and an exam, so I would simply talk to your veterinarian at that appointment.

Poor Happy! Good on you for checking her gums to make sure they look normal. Even though it's not hot outside, she could have worked herself up running around outside leading to her panting. Her drinking could be an effort to cool herself down. You can put a fan on her to see if that helps with the panting, and make sure she has plenty of access to fresh water at all times. Keep monitoring Happy, and if you do notice that her gums turn red or pale, she starts vomiting, becomes dizzy, shows weakness, has a bright red tongue, or the heavy panting continues over the next few hours despite trying to cool her down, I would have her seen by a vet right away. There is also a chance her panting could be due to a medical illness, such as cardiac disease, respiratory disease, or heartworms. Even if her panting stops, I would still have Happy seen by a vet tomorrow for a health check to be safe.
