Why does my puppy pee from excitement during playtime? How to stop?

Pet's info: Dog | Samoyed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 3 days old | 6 lbs

My puppy pees everytime during playtime. Despite the fact that i take him outside to pee right before playtime. I read somewhere that it might be because of excitement. How can i train him to stop? I don't want to prevent him from fun.

This is normal puppy behavior and Oli will out grow it eventually. The main thing you can do is try to keep him more calm when he is in areas you don’t want him to urinate. Pets especially urinate when we get home after being gone, try to ignore him when you come home until you get him outside. Then you can greet him. Also having a vigorous play session outside before bringing him inside can help make him more tired and he may not be as excitable later in the evening.

You are not doing anything wrong. Sometimes they get too excited outside and do. It completely empty. When you are worried, take her outside within that 30 minutes period to give her a chance to go again if she seems distracted. If her routine completely breaks down she seems to be regressing more I have her checked for a uribary tract infection

Hi, it is very common for puppies to urinate when excited or happy or submissive. Excitement urinating occurs in puppies under 1 year of age and it will gradually get better over the course of time. This kind of behaviour normally happens when people visit or when you come home etc. In order to help your puppy, I would recommend to keep playtime outside or on a specially prepared area with newspapers and puppy pads. When there is an accident do not reprimend or punish your puppy as this will just increase his fear and anxiety. Simply clean it up quietly and leave the puppy in peace. Reinforce positively his behaviour when peeing outside in the right places by giving him treats and praise. Avoid greeting the puppy at first when getting home, this will allow him to calm down and he can be greeted calmly without too much fuss later. Hope this helps !

This is really common for her age. Continue to be patient with her and continue to stick to the routine. She is likely holding it while you are gone because she is in a confined space. Most dogs do not like to go to the bathroom where they sleep. I would restrict her water to scheduled times throughout the day. For her size (13 pounds) she needs about 1.5-2 cups of water per day. (This will increase as she grows) When you schedule her water drinking, you can be sure to take her out a few minutes after she has had some water. When she does pee on the inside, you can tell her “no” and take her back outside to her designated spot just to help show her where she is suppose to be going. If she is continuing to urinate everywhere and small frequent amounts, I would have your vet check a urinalysis on her to ensure she doesn’t have a urinary tract infection. I hope this helps! Puppies can be very frustrating, keep being patient. It can take around 6 months for puppies to become completely house broken.

What he's doing is probably submissive urination. He sees you as an authority figure, or someone he's very happy to see and urinates. Submissive urination is normal canine communication. When a dog submissively urinates, he’s trying to convey that he’s not a threat. Keep play sessions with him low-key and play games with him that focus on toys rather than bodily contact.

I am very sorry this is happening with Kobe. I hope it is reassuring to know that this is a very normal puppy behaviour, and it will reduce with age. You seem to be doing everything correctly. Greeting outside is a wonderful idea. I would also suggest a tactic that may be difficult to start with but will hopefully solve the problem. Do not greet or interact with Kobe at all when you first come home. Wait until he is completely calm, sitting without barking. Then go to him and say hello calmly. Over time he will learn that he has to be calm for you to greet him and will do so straight away. This should ok time help eliminate the overly excited peeing. This should subside over time but one thing that may help is having any friends or family that are over to the house completely ignore Pinky until she calms down. My 7-month puppy pees at night & when excited. How to stop accidents?

Many dogs need to be crated at night to prevent accidents until they are 1-2 years old, so this is not unexpected - I would simply go ahead and crate her at night for now :) Once she's a bit older, you can gradually try giving her more freedom in the house at night. Excited peeing is usually something that puppies grow out of once they're older. In the meantime, you can help by ignoring her for a few minutes when you first get home and asking your visitors to do the same. Once she calms down a bit, you can gently pet her and say hello. Leaning over dogs to greet them also tends to make this problem worse, so crouching down to say hi may also be helpful. You can also take her outside to potty just before visitors come over to help decrease the chances of an accident. It's also very important not to punish her for this behavior, as she can't help it - corrections will only make her more anxious, and often makes the urination worse.

Hi. Congratulations on the new puppy. I'm sorry you were experiencing urination with excitement. This can be very common in puppies unfortunately. I would recommend having a urinalysis test done to make sure that she doesn't have a urinary tract infection. I would also recommend that your daughter and any other visitors ignore the puppy at first and talking in non-excited tones. Have her walk outside with you and go potty. Hopefully she will grow out of it. I would definitely discuss with your veterinarian also.

Why does my dog pee when certain people pet him? Is it normal?

Many times this is submissive behavior or a sign that Clark is very excited. This is normal puppy behavior and most dogs will outgrow it. Do not punish Clark when this behavior happens. The best thing you can do is either have the people greet Clark in an area that is OK if he urinates or have them ignore Clark when they first arrive until he calms down. They cannot speak to him, pet him or make eye contact with him. If he tries to jump on them, have them turn and walk away. Once he calms down it is OK to pay calm attention to him.
