My puppy is crying with painful bloody poop and hair. Emergency?

I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I would not give any expired medications. If the diarrhea or blood continue after 24 hours or gets worse during that time, I would seek medical attention from a vet to determine the cause. This is usually dietary related and if no other signs are present at this stage, the problem could be managed by start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. If that is the case antibiotics may be needed. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Luna! Blood isn't uncommon in the stool of dogs with diarrhea. The blood indicates inflammation in the colon. The diarrhea and blood can be from the raw hide so I would avoid them in the future. If she is eating, bright and not vomiting you can wait until Monday. Other causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, other dietary indiscretions, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, food allergy/intolerance, reaction to a new treat/table food/food. You can start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. I wish Luna the best!

This blood in his diarrhea could be due to intestinal worms, eating something rotten, a foreign body, parvo if he isn't vaccinated, or a severe stomach illness. He should definitely see a vet for this. As long as he is otherwise ok, it can wait until the morning. If he starts vomiting, has more bloody diarrhea, is very lethargic, stops drinking water, or is vomiting water, take him into an ER vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Persistent vomiting, bloody diarrhea and lack of appetite are emergent clinic signs due to fluid/electrolyte losses. This leads to dehydration, weakness, and further downward deterioration unless the vomiting stops and the appetite returns. I would advise taking Daisy to your vet as soon as possible to have her evaluated. Many causes are possible including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs aren't supposed to), other dietary problems, gastrointestinal inflammation/infection from various sources, toxin exposure, foreign body ingestion, GI ulceration, side effects from drugs or products used, or even problems outside of the gut including pancreatitis, liver/kidney problems, among many others. Your vet can get a detailed history and perform a thorough exam. Once done, a diagnostic plan and preliminary treatment plan can be started. Most likely a minimum database of fecal/blood/urine tests and some x-rays will be advised. Treatment will be focused on the cause but early treatment could include fluids/electrolytes, anti-nausea/vomiting medicines, acid blockers, etc. Good luck with Daisy.

Hello. This all depends on how Luna is feeling & doing otherwise. If she is eating & drinking & acting normal, you can try just fasting her for the next 8-12 hours, & then feeding her a bland diet consisting of cooked white meat chicken & plain boiled whole grain rice ( not instant or minute rice ). Feed her a couple of teaspoons every few hours & see how she does. If the diarrhea should worsen, contain more blood, or Luna starts vomiting, please see a veterinarian as soon as possible.
