My puppy is crying with painful bloody poop and hair. Emergency?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 14 days old | 3.8 lbs

My 10 week old dachshund took a very painful poop, she was crying in pain and I pulled it out of her bottom. It was full of my long hair and some streaks of red blood. She stoped crying. Then she pooped a bit more and it was mucousy. She has been eating and drinking like normal. She seems tired now, I can hear her tummy move a bit, just like a humans when our stomachs are upset. It’s saturday, she has a vet appointment Monday, will she be ok until then?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. Poor Dolly. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 6 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If you continue to see blood in her poop, she starts having diarrhea, it continues to be painful for her to poop, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
