My 5-month-old puppy is coughing and walking strangely. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 5 days old | 13 lbs

My dog has recently turned 5 months and she has been acting strangely. Lately, she's been coughing, a dry cough but nothing seems to come out. She also walks strangely at times as if she was a soldier. I'm not sure what breed she is but I hope I provided enough information.

A cough could be a sign of a respiratory infection like kennel cough, or could be a sign of respiratory or heart disease. At her age I would recommend having a vet examine her for the cough to rule out anything more serious. I'm not quite sure I can picture what you mean by walking like a soldier, but if Princesa is limping, again, it would be a good idea to have her examined by your vet.
