Why is my 3-month-old puppy coughing, gagging, and having diarrhea?

It sounds like Maximus may have a respiratory infection such as kennel cough, which often causes coughing and gagging without anything coming up. Or, he could be feeling nauseous and trying to vomit - if his stomach is empty, sometimes this gagging can be non-productive. If he is acting normal otherwise and this problem just started today, you can try withholding food for the rest of the day and offering a small amount of plain boiled chicken and rice this evening to help settle his stomach. If this doesn't help, or if he continues to have repeated episodes of coughing or gagging throughout the day, then I would recommend having him examined by a vet - he/she can determine whether Maximus has a respiratory infection or a stomach problem and get him started on appropriate medication to treat it.

Poor Poppy! It could be she has intestinal worms causing her diarrhea, those are common in puppies. I'd have her seen by a vet and bring along a sample of her poop for the vet to examine. If she does have intestinal worms, the vet can treat her. I hope this helps!

It seems as Max is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

If Maxx seems very painful or in severe distress and this has been ongoing all morning, it would be a good idea to bring him to a vet ASAP. Diarrhea in addition to pain, heavy panting or distress may indicate severe GI upset, obstruction, GDV (bloat), or another illness, and should be checked out by a vet right away if his symptoms are continuing.

The good news is, it's really not possible for her to have heartworm disease at her age - this illness takes a very long time to develop after being infected, so we don't typically see symptoms of it in dogs less than 2-3 years old at minimum. It's good that you're planning to take your pup in to the vet today for an exam. He/she will listen to her heart and lungs, and may recommend chest x-rays or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem. If she does have kennel cough (or something similar), your vet will probably send her home with antibiotics to treat the infection.

Poor Max! Without any information about diagnostics, it’s hard to say. Viral infections like Parvo can cause this. An intestinal blockage could also cause the same signs. If there’s any chance that Max got into any human medications that could cause organ damage, he could also present this way. I recommend to have a discussion with your veterinarian and ask what the doctor is suspecting is going on. If Mack has a habit of eating things that are not food, that could be causing the coughing, gagging, and vomiting. He may have eaten something that has upset his stomach. I do think he needs to see a vet for this, and I think it would be best if you take him into the vet first thing in the morning.
