My 7-month-old puppy chews walls at night. Will more exercise help?

I would let ziggy set his own limits. At this age most puppies will eat, sleep , play and defecate. I would recommend shorter walks to just make sure Ziggy isn't over doing it. However you can still play fetch, work on training and other types of activities to help with ziggys hyperness.

Young dogs get into a lot of mischief! I would encourage you to consider crating her at night to prevent her access to things she shouldn’t be getting into. I'm so sorry you're going through this with Max. Unfortunately, young dogs have a lot of energy that can become destructive if they don't have any other outlet for it. The simplest short term solution might be to crate Max during the day while you're gone, but I think the best long term solution will be to find appropriate outlets for his energy. One of my favorite things for young dogs are feeding balls and toys such as a BusterCube. You can feed his entire meal in it, which will take him a while and require him to "play" more. I would also strongly recommend some additional training classes. It sounds simple, but my dog is 2 years old and he is always tired (and better behaved) for a day after an obedience class because he really worked his mind. Chewing is normal for puppies and unfortunately, most of them will not out grow it until thy are about 2 years old. Ingesting material can lead to an intestinal blockage which requires surgery. Heavy exercise prior to leaving may help (if it makes her tired enough to sleep all day) but a safer and more sure option in general is crate training. I think at the moment he is probably bored and his overexcitable behaviour doesn't help much either. You should try to help him keep calm by giving him a place where he can settle, entertain himself , for example offering him a kong stuffed with some dog food , then put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. Make sure that the kong is not too small other ways he could ingest it.

Oh no! If he will tolerate a crate, I would strongly consider this to help prevent him from swallowing something he shouldn’t and to prevent more damage to your house. I would also consider some calming chews like vetriscience composure and a calming collar like adaptil. If this doesn’t help, I would talk to your vet about starting him on an anti-anxiety Medicine. Puppies are notorious for destructive behavior. Most dogs will outgrow this by 2 years of age but not all do. Additionally, this behavior is not only destructive but it can lead to ingesting toxin substances and intestinal foreign bodies which are fatal without treatment. Patches needs to be crated any time you are not physically watching her. It's safer that way.
