What to do for puppy cherry eye if vets are closed until tomorrow?

I think this looks a little like cherry eye, or a prolapse of the gland on the third eyelid, as well but it's difficult to tell for certain from a picture. There is nothing specific to do at home - sometimes a veterinarian will try gently replacing the gland with a numbing drop and sterile cotton swab but this isn't something I'd attempt at home. You could use an artificial tear ointment to help lubricate the eye for comfort until you can see a vet. If Krypto is squinting, if the eye begins to look more red, or if you notice yellow or green discharge I'd recommend seeing a vet.

Cherry eye is a disorder of the tear gland and can become infected which can cause it to bleed. Your veterinarian may recommend antibiotics or steroids for the eye temporarily. Ultimately, corrective surgery is often needed for cherry eye which can be done by your veterinarian.

2 weeks is very young to know just how severe the cherry eye may become. It's hard to give you specific advice without seeing a picture, but generally if you can see the membrane poking out I would go to the vet asap to have it checked. Sometimes it is simply protruding due to a treatable infection, or if it will be a case of surgery, the vet can prescribe lubricant and antiinflammatory drops to keep it comfortable until surgery is possible.

Cherry eye doesn't affect vision, so Nova can go about as normal. If there is a lot of eye discharge secondary to the cherry eye, then you may need to be careful about parasites, such as flies, which can cause infection in the eye.

Best treat for the entire time your veterinarian prescribed and intended the Vetropilycin. If the gland still is in its place on after the holiday weekend, please call your veterinarian and ask him whether you should continue the treatment. He may want to see your puppy for a recheck and assessment before deciding to stop treatment.

Bailey needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Many vets will give a steroid medication to decrease the swelling and hopefully allow the gland to shrink and slip back into it's appropriate position. If it does not, she will need surgery.
