Puppy broke a tooth, bleeding, in pain. What can I do until the vet?

See if she will let you look at her mouth gently so you can try to stop the bleeding if possible. If not, don't push it. Do not give her any food tonight or in the morning, and get her into a vet asap. She can have water.

Poor thing! I can’t imagine breaking one of my teeth at the gumline. I understand that you are very concerned about her experiencing pain and I am certain that it is painful to have a broken tooth at the gumline. But here is the problem, most over-the-counter pain medications that would be strong enough to help her will interfere with tissue and blood clotting. Why does this matter? Because most likely your veterinarian will recommend either extraction of that tooth or restorative surgery for that tooth. Both procedures will involve anesthesia as well as tissue manipulation. So I cannot recommend you start any kind of pain medication right now at all. But never underestimate the power of simply petting and loving your dog during the six hour wait. Studies have shown that simply by safely and lovingly stroking and speaking to your pet can provide a lot of unexplained stress and pain relief. The time should pass by very quickly for you when your pet and then you will be able to get The pain treated with possible surgery and medications. I hope this has helped.

Poor Osi! Apply gentle pressure if he will let you to try to stop the bleeding. Take him into the vet first thing in the morning, and don't feed him in the morning. The vet will likely need to sedate him to remove the broken tooth, and he needs an empty stomach to be sedated safely. Best of luck.

Feed a soft diet until she sees the doctor. There is nothing OTC that can safely given for pain. Many OTC medications for humans are toxic to dogs or easily overdosed. That tooth may need to be extracted.

I recommend making an appointment with your vet when they open to take a look at it. Though she isn’t acting painful, it may become painful or infected. There isn’t anything you can do at home and no safe medications you can give for pain. If it is broken, she will likely need to undergo anesthesia to have the tooth removed. If it won’t come out or he won’t left you, just leave it alone until tomorrow. Make an appointment with your vet tomorrow to make sure no root remains. If he wants to eat tonight, he can but I wouldn’t feed him in the morning in case the vet needs to sedate him for an oral exam. Water is ok to give.
