My 3-month-old puppy bit me. Do I need a tetanus or rabies shot?

It is unlikely that your puppy has rabies, however there are three things you need to do: 1) do not play with your puppy with your face close to it. 2) have your puppy vaccinated ( it will need at least three courses of vaccines to protect it from parvo. distemper and other viral diseases, as well as rabies 3) see a doctor for your lip injury.

Your question is a human medical question, which we are not qualified to answer. You need to check with your human doctor about taking the rabies vaccines. In terms of your dog, if he had rabies, he would have been dead by now if he had it three months ago when he bit you.

Since he has had his rabies vaccination, you do not need to be worried. You do not need ARV. You do, however, need to be worried that you could get a skin infection. Just keep the wounds clean as it looks like you have done. If you notice any major redness, pain or swelling around the bite areas you need to see your human doctor.

If the wound is deep enough, it may require stitches and prescription antibiotics if it is infected. Depending on your local animal control and rabies laws, your puppy may need a rabies vaccine now and then a booster in 6 months. I would be sure to have Puppy seen by a veterinarian right away so he can have this wound evaluated.

Tetanus and rabies vaccinations are good - glad you got that but you also need antibiotics. The wound sounds infected. Dogs have dirty mouths with a lot of bacteria. I suggest you go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. You are not getting rabies so don't be worried about that.

Hello, sorry to hear about Marshal. If your puppy has not been bit by another stray dog or wildlife then it should not be infected with rabies and thus you are likely not infected with rabies. Your puppy is still too your to receive his rabies vaccine, but you should always practice safety measures and not allow him to be around other dogs whom you don't know their vaccine history. Ultimately, you should wash your bite wound thoroughly and seek medical attention for your bite wound. Puppies can have a biting behavior although it should not be tolerated or encouraged. This means you should avoid this behavior, stop giving him attention if he shows this behavior, redirect this behavior to a toy and above all never punish him as this can make the behavior worse. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Austin has had his rabies vaccine you should be fine. But you should contact your local health department and talk to a human physician. If Austin has Rabies in the transmissible form (in the salivary glands) then he will show neurologic signs for rabies with in 10 days. Keep him quarantined for 10 days. If he dies from any cause he should be tested for Rabies if it is before the 10 days quarantine. Always keep your pets up to date on rabies and prevent them interacting with wild life and unvaccinated pets. I wish you the best!
