Puppy bit dog's testicles. Will the puncture wound heal on its own?

If the skin was damaged to the point that the testicles are exposed your dog must be seen by a veterinarian right away to assess whether the testicles can be saved and repaired, or whether he needs to have the damaged testicle(s) removed. This will likely also be infected. Please take your dog to a Pet ER now.

You will need to put an e-collar on your dog so he cannot lick his testicles and keep them from healing. You may have to take him back to the vet for a skin swab or biopsy to be sent in and cultured and examined under the microscope, respectively. This may also be a fungal or parasitic infection or even cancerous.

It's not easy to see the extent of the puncture from the picture, but it appears somewhat minor. It's always best to have a vet examine it and provide treatment, so if you can have him seen in the next 24 hours, that would be great, but may not be necessary. The first thing you should do is flush the wound using a syringe or other dispensing device with warm water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because dogs tend to hate water getting near their face. I recommend having someone help you with holding Finn to make sure the wound gets flushed well. Infection is the biggest concern with these wounds; so after flushing, it's best to apply the Neosporin cream to the wound. In order to keep the wound clean, it's best to flush the wound 1-2 times a day and gently wipe away any big crusts - make sure not to scrub the wound, because this can make it worse. Apply the antibacterial cream after each flushing. If the wound starts to swell or have pus oozing from the wound, then I'd recommend he goes to the vet for treatment. Otherwise, the wound should heal fine over the next 2-3 weeks. I hope that helps and Finn gets better soon.

I would probably not use Neosporin so close to the mouth, as it can easily be licked off and since it's not made for dogs I can't tell you for sure that it's safe for them to ingest. If it's not a complete puncture you can clean it with mild soap, gauze, and warm water. Watch for pus and swelling, and do see a vet if you notice any of these as Moonshine may need antibiotics.

Place an [e-collar](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/well-and-good-e-collar) (cone) on him right away to prevent further licking or scratching. If the wound is superficial, I suggest gently cleansing the area with a diluted betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution. Applying a warm washcloth 2-3 times a day for five minutes at a time may provide some relief from itching and discomfort. Afterwards, dry the area throughly. If there is no sign of improvement in a few days or if your dog develops a fever, loses his appetite, start [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/article/vomiting-in-dogs) and/or having [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/article/diarrhea-in-dogs) then have him physically examined by your veterinarian right away. Additional symptoms that should also be addressed by your veterinarian include redness, swelling, discharge or bleeding.

Due to the area I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Dog bites almost always need antibiotics, as well as if it heals abnormally I worry that it could cause frequent urine scald issues. Stitches would probably be warranted. While there are certainly things you can do at home, the would appears to be badly infected and may become significantly worse without medications. I would definitely encourage you to obtain your dog's temperature at home to check for a fever. Anything above 102.5 is considered elevated. It also appears that the edges of the wound are somewhat blackened and may require trimming in order to heal appropriately. The only things you are going to be able to do at home is to clean the area with an antiseptic like chlorhexidine or dilute betadine, and apply a topical antibiotic ointment. You can also obtain an e-collar from a store or veterinarian to prevent Tito from licking the wound. However, I would strongly encourage you to seek out a veterinarian who is willing to work with you financially or for you to obtain a payment plan through a company like CareCredit. I do not believe trying to treat this at home is the correct move. Hope this helps.
