My 7-week-old puppy has bald spots. Is it an allergy or mites?

Hi! I got my dog when he was 6 Weeks old and now he is 7 weeks old. When I first got him he didn’t have any bald spots but a couple of days later I noticed that he had one and And also notice he was sweating a little bit and Friday I washed him in baby shampoo and now I noticed that he has more bald spots on his neck and back. He hasn’t been itiching and biting so I don’t know what to do could he have allergic reaction or is this normal

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thanks for also adding photos. Since I can’t see Prince McArthur up close I can’t for sure but it is possible he has microscopic mites. These mites are not itchy and not contagious but can cause hair loss especially in young puppies. I recommend taking him to a vet so they can look with a microscope and get him treatment if necessary. Good luck and kisses to Prince McArthur!

It could be from fleas, but it could also be due to mites, allergies, or ringworm. Without seeing Mimi in person, I can't say for certain. Have her seen by a vet tomorrow to get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

Prince and his sister need to see the veterinarian. They need to be checked for external parasites likes fleas, ringworm (which humans can get) and skin mites. It's possible they are sharing these parasites together (or have a genetic predisposition in the case of the skin mites). Until you know the underlying cause, it's not likely you will be able to fix the problem. An omega 3 fatty acid for dogs can help improve skin health but it will not correct parasitic problems. The doctor can quickly figure out if mites or ringworm are the problem. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a possibility Colt has a skin mite called demodex (mange). These mites are microscopic and don’t cause the pet to scratch. I recommend taking him to a vet where they can scrape his skin and look for the mite with a microscope. They can also look for a secondary bacterial infection from the mite. Once they have a diagnosis they can prescribe him the correct medications to treat his skin. Good luck and kisses to Colt!

My 3-month puppy scratches, bites, has bald spots. Mites or allergy?

Unfortunately, if you are unable to take her in for diagnostic testing, the best thing you can do is use the drugs that were provided to you by your veterinarian already. Demodectic mites and/or fleas would definitely be the top differential for these symptoms in a pup of this age. Often multiple treatments with Revolution or a drug like it will be required to get the symptoms under control. Sometimes, even if the symptoms are resolves, continued treatment Revolution is recommended for another couple of rounds to make sure there are no residual mites still living on the body's surface. I would agree that a grain allergy at this age would be highly unusual but certainly not impossible. Hope this makes sense.

What are these dry bald spots on my 2-week-old pitbull puppies?

Hello! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! First off, you're doing a great job by keeping fleas off the mother dog and combing the pups regularly. Looking at the spots of hair loss on the head, my top suspicions would be ringworm, demodectic mange, or a bacterial skin infection. I would recommend you take her into a vet to find out what the problem is. Ringworm is a skin fungus that can be transmitted to people, but it is treated fairly easily if it is caught early. The vet will likely recommend a DTM culture to test for fungal infections, and a skin scraping and impression smear to find the root of the problem. I hope that helps!

Why does my 3-month-old puppy have small bald patches on his fur?

They don't look red or irritated, and the fur loss may be from an injury or a skin infection. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for sure. My 1-month-old puppy is losing hair. Is this normal or a concern?

It is not normal for a pet to have bald spots, but it is normal for a pet to shed. If Cookie has bald spots, then the top causes for this are: Flea allergies or Demodexx mites. It is best to have him examined by your vet to determine which is the cause and to start treatment. I hope that Cookie's hair issues resolve soon! Best wishes and take care.
