My 5-month-old puppy ate a rock and headphones. Is it an emergency?

Oh dear! Puppies are notorious for chewing up and eating things they shouldn't. The biggest concern is that one or more pieces of the headphones could become lodged in her intestines and cause a blockage - if this happens, she will need emergency surgery to remove the obstruction. The good news is, as long as she is eating and drinking normally, acting fine, and not vomiting, you shouldn't need to worry :) Signs of an obstruction would include vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having regular bowel movements. If she develops any of these symptoms over the next 2-3 days, you will need to take her to the vet for an exam and possible surgery. But as long as she's acting normal, it should be fine to just monitor her at home.

It may due to boredom or an attempt to correct a nutritional deficiency. If she continues, she could cause a gastric or intestinal obstruction which may require emergency surgery. Review her diet with your veterinarian to confirm a balanced diet. Provide extra playtime and a variety of toys and activities to keep her distracted from eating rocks. Restrict access to areas with rocks if possible as well.

You can monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. Attempts to vomit or straining to defecate are additional symptoms that you should watch out for. Beyond that, there is not much you can do at home. If Piper develops any of the above symptoms, she will need to be examined by your veterinarian.

Hi! Cute puppy. If you arent sure diamond are a rock, I wouldn't worry. Hut what you would watch for is vomiting, diarrhea and decreased appetite. Depending on size of rock, most of them do pass. Whenever foreign objects like this are ingested, there is no guarantee that they will pass. The best advice is to monitor Honey for the next 24-48 hrs for any signs of an intestinal obstruction, which includes: excessive vomiting (food and water), lack of appetite, few to no feces, and severe lethargy. If seen, then its best to take Honey to your local vet for an x-ray of her belly and further care. Hopefully the rock was small enough to pass on its own. The concern that I would have is that the headphones will cause a blockage in Bo's stomach, or if there is copper wiring in it, it could pierce his intestines. You will have to monitor him for now, as it's not recommend to make him vomit them back up. Signs of obstruction or perforation include vomiting, anorexia, extreme lethargy, constipation, or diarrhea. Should you see any of those signs, Bo will have to see a vet immediately. You will need to monitor him and his feces for the next 72 hours, and if you don't see any signs of the headphones in his feces within 72 hours, he will need to see a vet right away.
