Teacup puppy ate roach bait, coughing & choking. Does he need a vet?

Being that the packaging states the active ingredient as boric acid he will likely be fine. It doesn't sound like he ingested enough to be toxic however, he could have some gastrointestinal upset for the next few days. I suggest you feed him some bland food for 2-3 days. That being said, we always suggest a vet examine your pet if they have ingested any type of poison. It is difficult for us to say much over the internet without having examined the pet. The roachbait is not toxic to dogs. The only problem dogs have with the bait is the bait box if they swallow it. It could cause an intestinal obstruction or blockage. So, if Gretchen did not eat the baitstation/box, she should be alright. Seems like roach bait smells goooood to dogs, too!

Luckily roach bait traps aren't very toxic to dogs, but eating the plastic would cause Lilly Mae stomach upset, leading to the vomiting. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

This could be an infection such as kennel cough or pneumonia. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She will likely be just fine. A small amount of raid left on a roach isn't going to cause any serious issues for your pet. At the very least she may have an upset stomach. In which case you can feed her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days, and then slowly transition her back to her normal diet. If she doesn't seem to be recovering from the stomach upset as expected after 12-24 hrs, then its best to just haver her checked by your vet and given some supportive treatment to help her stomach settle quicker. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Shooter! I wonder if Shooter could be coughing with a terminal retch. With coughing sometimes they can even bring up white foam or yellow bile a the end of the cough. Since he is eating it makes be think he might not actually be trying to vomit. Try to catch the episode on video and have Shooter seen today or tomorrow by your Vet, before the weekend. If he is coughing he may have kennel cough and need antibiotics or cough suppressants. He is a young puppy so I don't think you should wait too long with the symptoms you are describing. I hope this helps and I wish Shooter the best!

Just a like humans, dogs sometimes vomit a couple times (for many reasons) and then are completely fine. If the vomiting recurrs or you see other concerning signs like loss of appetite, extreme lethargy, or anything else That concerns you, head in to the vet to figure out what’s going on.
