My puppy ate pine needles, vomited, and won't drink water. What to do?

Thank you for your questions about Pippy. Many things can make pet's have an upset stomach: parasites, new foods/treats, viral infections, eating something they shouldn't have, toxins, organ disease or even intestinal blockage. The pine cones will generally only cause a problem if they are ingested. They will cause a blockage and this typically appears as vomting, not wanting to eat and being lethargic. The main concern I see if how small Pippy is. Small breed puppies are prone to low blood sugar (which is an emergency) so you really have to make sure they are eating and drinking normally. I generally recommend any pet that has been sick beyond 24 hours to see a veterinarian and that whats I recommend to Pippy too. She's been sick for 2 days and she is very small. Try to get her seen today and bring in a stool sample. The doctor will likely check her for more common reasons like parasites but may recommend further diagnostics. Also, switch her to a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice. Feed her this for a few days as it will help to intestines to relax more. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. Continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea doesn’t stop, see your veterinarian. Restrict access to pine needles to prevent future episodes of diarrhea.

She might have a condition called "Parvovirus" which is a very serious virus that affects puppies, and is more likely if Joplin is unvaccinated. The other possible causes in a puppy include an obstruction in her gut (a blockage from a foreign object (ex. ball) that she ate, or an intussusception (the intestines telescoping in on each other). Also, depending on her age, pyometra is possible along with many other conditions. With what you are describing, I am very concerned that she could die without aggressive care. I strongly recommend you get Joplin to a vet right away, and if your vet is closed go to your closest emergency clinic. They will recommend a test of her poop, as well as possible bloodwork and x-rays, and will likely want to keep her in hospital on IV fluids and medications. Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Chloe evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better.
