My puppy ate chocolate gelato. Should I be worried about toxicity?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 3 months and 9 days old | 5 lbs

My puppy, Ellie, ate a little bit of chocolate gelato ice cream. She's acting normal, but I’m still worried. Do you think I should be worried or not?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ellie. The chocolate content in the gelato is likely too low to cause any toxicity. The fat content may lead to an upset stomach for her though. If she develops any significant vomiting or diarrhea or neurological issues which can occur with chocolate ingestion (stumbling around, tremors or agitation), she will need to see her veterinarian. She will likely be just fine, but watch her closely. I hope this information helps!
