Why is my pregnant dog weak, can't stand, won't drink, and bleeding?

H there and thanks for posting. If Stella is pregnant, then she could be in stage 1 of labor which can last 6-8 hours. However, the not getting up as well as the lethargic and bleeding from the vagina is concerning if she is pregnant. This may be an indication something is wrong with her pups and the pregnancy or she may have pregnancy toxemia. If she isn't pregnant, there is another medical reason behind her symptoms that needs to be addressed by a veterinarian in person. It is hard to say what exactly is going on without examining her first. My best advice is to have her seen right away by a veterinarian or taken to an emergency veterinary clinic. With these symptoms I worry that your dog may have a pyometra instead of being pregnant. Pyometras typically develop around 3-6 weeks after they go into heat and present as bloody discharge, lethargy, abdominal swelling, etc. I would recommend that she is seen by a veterinarian who can perform an ultrasound to make sure she isn't suffering from an infection.

She looks to be in pretty poor body condition. I would recommend calling out a vet to see what could be going on. Depending on her age, it could be related to major organ failure, simply poor nutrition, complications from the pregnancy, intestinal parasites, oral disease, etc.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that Sparks needs to be taken to a Vet immediately! It's hard to tell you what is happening to her with out knowing more. If she has been in stage 2 labor for hours with out the birth of a puppy she could be in distress or pain. If she is unconscious and thrashing it could be due to low blood sugar or low calcium. I would try to talk to her and get her up. You can try to wipe karosyrup on her gums. If she is unconscious it is imperative to get her to a Vet right away. I wish you the best!

I am sorry to hear that Flirt is so sick. There are many possibilities of what could be going on, but I am concerned about colitis or even hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. The bloody diarrhea and lethargy is very concerning. Dogs with HGE can become gravely ill very quickly. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Unfortunately, all the signs you have listed are considered "non-specific" meaning these are common signs associated with many different diseases. The most life-threatening and urgent case would be if a puppy was not delivered and has been dead inside her. This can lead to signs life this followed by shock and death. As such, if you are not sure how many puppies she was carrying (via a previous x-ray), I'd see an emergency vet immediately to confirm that all of them are out. If not, emergency stabilization and/or surgery will be needed. Several other things coming to mind include: mastitis (mammary tissue infection/inflammation), bacterial or viral infection, parasites, intestinal obstruction (if she is known to eat things), and more. Regardless of what the underlying cause it, Sam is losing alot of her body fluid through milk and will quickly become seriously dehydrated if she is not drinking. She needs to see a vet today to make sure she is ok and to re-hydrate her if necessary. Best of luck to you and Sam.

I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian to have her examined. It's possible that she has gastroenteritis, an infection, or any number of other diseases. Your veterinarian can take her temperature and may recommend an ultrasound to check the puppies' heart rates and make sure they are not in distress. I typically recommend feeding a high quality puppy food to pregnant dogs, but your veterinarian might recommend trying a higher calorie therapeutic diet. Good luck!
