My 6-week pregnant dog has swollen teats but no weight gain. Normal?

You'll need to wait about 1 more week before you will be able to check for pregnancy. Your veterinarian can do this via blood test, palpation or abdominal x-ray or ultrasound. The enlarged teats may be an early indication. A small amount of mucus-like or pink tinged discharge during pregnancy is normal.

Usually change in behaviour, swollen mammary gland with milk production, loss of appetite (rarely with consistent weight gain or loss), symptoms of mothering activity, nesting, and self-nursing. Bella's problem seems slightly different. If weight loss is more than 10-15 % of total body weight a check up at your local vets is needed.

Poor silver! She could be pregnant (unless y'all have watched her 100% of the time she is outside) or she could be going through a false pregnancy (they think they are pregnant and will show similar signs of swollen mammary glands, nesting, whining, etc). She could also have an infection in her mammary tissues. I would recommend to contact your vet for an exam to confirm that she isn't pregnant and see what is going on. There is always a possibility of any female dog who is not spayed for pregnancy. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian. She looks small and so it would be recommended to take a radiograph to see if puppies are present or not. Small breed dogs are more prone to problems giving birth so it is important to know how many puppies to expect. She likely is not caught up on vaccines or anything either if you have not had her examined yet so you need to discuss the preventive care that she needs to keep her and the puppies healthy if she is pregnant. If Nyia has had a recent heat cycle, this can cause the mammary tissue to swell and it should go away. Intact females can also have problems with false pregnancies and this too will result in swollen teats and will generally reaolve. The teats can get infected and signs include swelling, heat, discomfort, discoloration and discharge. If any of those signs are seen, she should see the veterinarian. Getting her spayed will stop issues with swollen teats and false pregnancy. Dogs can get breast cancer and dogs that are spayed under the age of 2.5 years old have less cancer rates than those who are not spayed. Poor girl. I would suspect that she may have organ enlargement and not a false pregnancy, especially if he mammary glands and vulva are normal size and she isn’t producing milk. I would recommend considering getting an abdominal radiograph done on Umi to look for any enlargements in the abdomen. Hopefully this will give you your answer.
