My pregnant dog is in pain. Is Metacam safe for her to take now?

You cannot give Rimi any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. Plus with her being pregnant, she can only have certain pain meds. You need to take her into a vet now to get safe pain medications.

Most dogs who give birth naturally and even with C-sections are not prescribed pain medications. In the US the FDA has not approved for use in lactating or pregnant animals. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatorys are excreted in the milk. I would suggest not using it until you speak with your Vet. I hope this helps and good luck!

This product has not been tested for safety in pregnant dogs. That said, a quick search of individual ingredients reveals that licorice root and nettle root should not be given to pregnant dogs and echinacea should be used with caution in pregnant/nursing dogs. Since these are in the ingredient list and to be safe, you should not give this product to Vienna until she has whelped and the litter has been weaned.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend feeding a pregnant dog puppy food. MOST dogs do not need a calcium supplement. Little breed dogs are at a higher risk of low calcium. Low calcium IF it will be a problem, occurs after birth during the first few days with large litters nursing or in small breed dogs. You should not give Scotty the aspirin or any additional medications. Metacam is an NSAID and so is aspirin. The two can have negative interactions so you can’t mix them. If Scotty tolerates it, try a warm compress (not hot) to the sore area. Also encouraging him to walk around can actually help it to feel better. I hope he feels better quickly!
