Pregnant husky: labor signs, discharge, 102 temp. Is this normal?

My main recommendation is to check her temperature to make sure she does not have a fever (over 102.5). While it is normal for the temperature to rise for the first 24 hours after whelping, by now it should return to normal. If she does have a fever or the vaginal discharge has a foul smell, is increasing in volume, or she seems to be feeling any worse, then take her to the veterinarian. If you have a house call veterinarian in your area, that would be even better. Infection of the uterus, or metritis, is possible and should be taken seriously. At two days post-whelping, a reddish brown discharge is normal. If she has no fever and seems to be feeling better, then just make sure she has plenty to eat and lots of fresh water. They usually with go in to stage 1 labor after the temperature drops below 99. You should start watching her more closely around day 58. Newspaper is the best bedding for whelping boxes. Whelping and When to be Concerned Stages of Labor: -Stage 1 tends to start 10-24 hours after temperature drop (usually below 99 F). -Stage 1: nesting. Can persist for 3-24 hours before abdominal contractions begin -Stage 2: Visible abdominal contractions. FIRST PUPPY SHOULD ARRIVE WITH IN 1-2 HOURS. -Stage 3: passage of placenta. Usually occurs within 15 mins of passing puppy. If it does not happen, don’t worry. When to worry/Call: -Strong contractions > 45-60 mins without birth of a puppy -Weak and infrequent contractions >4-6 hours without birth of puppy ->4-5 hours between puppies (after birth of first puppy without birth of the next puppy). Hello, Bixie will likely deliver within the next week if she truly is pregnant. Signs may include a decrease in body temperature, nesting habits, and anxiety. You may then see contraction and her water break. As long as you're not seeing these signs last longer than a couple of days, you do not need to have her evaluated. If you see her go into labor and see her water break with active contractions you should expect to see a puppy within 30-60 minutes. If she is in labor without producing a puppy for more than 2 hours, then you should have her evaluated. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Chances are she will be ok, but I would schedule regular checks up with her vet to make sure the pregnancy is progressing well. Some bitches stop eating during the last twenty-four hours before labor, and may act differently. The rectal temperature will drop below 100F (37.8C), usually an hour or two before whelping. I would keep a close eye on her tonight to see if she progresses to the second stage of labor. Second stage labor is the stage of delivery. She will start to strain. If straining continues for two hours without any signs of a watery discharge ("water breaking") or puppies, you should contact your veterinarian. Most dogs experience no complications with delivery. First time mothers should be attended by their owners until at least one or two puppies have been born. I hope this is helpful!

What you describe does make me think she is uncomfortable. I would recommend watching her belly closely for signs of contractions. If she goes outdoors go with her. You don’t want her delivering a pup outdoors and leaving it. If 3-4 hours go by with no progression you may want to have her evaluated by your veterinarian.
