Why is my Pomeranian tired with a sensitive stomach and dark wet poop?

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

I'm unsure if my pomeranian is experiencing bloat. His stomach seems to very sensitive. His abdominal area seems to shake when he is in distress but when he rests it doesn't shake as much, if that makes sense. He is getting rest, but I'm concerned because he is so tired. He doesn't want anyone to touch his stomach and it is making noises. just a little while ago he seemed interested in food.He pooped once today and it was dark and wet. Is he constipated?

I’m sorry to hear that Timmy isn’t feeling well. He is adorable! From the photo I can see that his stool is somewhat soft and dark, an indication of diarrhea. His abdominal pain can be caused by a number of issues with his intestines, an obstruction, pancreatitis, or even ingesting something he shouldn’t have. I recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as possible, especially if he continues to not have an appetite or begins vomiting. Your vet can perform bloodwork and x-rays to determine what is going on. You can also bring a stool sample from Timmy in a disposable container to help your vet check for intestinal parasites.

These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.

Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, food allergy or intolerance, pancreatitis, reaction to new food/treat/table food, medications or vaccinations.

The blood indicates inflammation. Ideally he should see your Vet for medications. You can start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 1-2 normal stools.

It could be a food allergy so if it persists then I recommend trying a different food.

Constant diarrhea is never normal. Make sure that your vet has done a fecal float and fecal smear to see if Taz has worms or other parasites. If he has been dewormed already, he may need to be on a drug called metronidazole for a week or so. Also, probiotics are very helpful for diarrhea. Taz may also need to be on a veterinary prescription food allergy diet like Hills z/d for several weeks. If all these treatments fail, your vet may want to consider testing for intestinal lymphoma or inflammatory bowel disease. Hope that helps!

Why is my dog straining to poop with soft stools and a sore bottom?

I’m sorry to hear Pompom isn’t feeling well. If she is straining to poop but her stools are soft, it may be that she’s got some colitis (inflammation in her colon). Another concern would be a mass or tumor in her colon. I would recommend that you have your vet examine her. They may recommend a fecal exam, possibly some blood work or X-rays. An abdominal ultrasound (sonogram of the belly) may also help determine what’s going on. Even if you aren’t financially able to approve diagnostics, your vet will probably be able to prescribe some medication to help make her feel better. As far as something soothing for the skin on her bum, I would recommend a wound healing ointment made for dogs, you can likely find at PetCo or another pet store. Another option would be A and D ointment —the brown ointment, NOT the cream as it contains zinc oxide. . DO NOT USE A PRODUCT CONTAINING ZINC OXIDE (often in diaper rash creams). Again, my best recommendation would be to get her in to your vet as soon as you can. Good luck to you and Pompom! She is such a cutie! I hope she’s feeling better soon.

My Pomeranian is weak, not eating, and burping. Is it his stomach?

Poor Koda! You are certainly right that he could have stomach upset causing his anorexia and burping. It could be a GI illness leading to his symptoms. I would allow him to not eat tonight, and then tomorrow morning try offering him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he still refuses to eat the bland diet in the morning, then I would have him seen by a vet for a health check.

My dog threw up, has dark runny stool. Is it serious or just sensitive stomach?

I'm concerned about this stool. Dark tarry stool like this can be a sign of stomach or intestinal bleeding. The bleeding could be from medication, parasites, a gastric ulcer or cancer. I'm glad Truman is feeling better but I recommend a veterinary exam soon. They will run a blood panel to check for anemia, perhaps check for intestinal parasites, and perhaps due some X-rays. My dog is sick, throwing up for 3 days, and won't move. Help!

Poor Jimmy. He sounds like he has an internal illness unfortunately. Lots of diseases can cause constant vomiting and lethargy in A Pomeranian including: pancreatitis, a foreign body obstruction, kidney disease, liver disease and an infection just to name a few. 3 days of being ill is too long to try anything more at home or to wait to see if things get better. At this point I would highly recommend taking Jimmy to your local veterinarian for bloodwork +/- radiographs to diagnose the underlying problem so that we know what treatment he needs to hopefully make it through his serious illness. Poor Timmy sounds sick. Try offering him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. Should he eat this, feed it to him for a couple of days, then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat it, then have him seen by a vet.

My dog has yellow diarrhea, tight tummy, and ate a toy. Vet needed?

I'm sorry to hear that Panda isn't feeling well. It is difficult to determine if his diarrhea is related to Rimadyl, ingestion of the rubber toy or stick, parasites, a virus, or other issue. Given all of these possibilities and the fact that his abdomen is tight and he has been straining for a bowel movement, I do recommend taking Panda to to his vet for evaluation. The vet will be able to perform an exam to palpate his abdomen and may recommend abdominal x-rays. Try to withhold food for the next 12-24 hours. If his vet appointment is more than 24 hours away, you can also begin to feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually transitioning him back to his normal diet over another 5-7 days. I hope this helps and that Panda feels better soon!
