What are these strange plant-like things I found stuck on my dog's fur?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to say for sure without being able to see it. However, you may be describing tapeworms. Otherwise, it may be something from the environment. I recommend that you show these to your veterinarian so that it can be determined if they represent tapeworms as that requires therapy. Hi there. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and for posting the photos! This just looks like plant material to me. Maybe something in the cocklebur family? I don't see the "alive" thing you are referring to. Honestly, I think if there is something alive in the seed then it is just coincidence it is on your cat. I think the burr just got stuck in the fur. I have never heard of caterpillars coming out of any hair. If it is in the burr on your cat it is only because it is stuck in the fur. Not because it is "living" there. I recommend you just keep him brushed out daily. If you are really worried you can also take these things into your vet so they can see them. It is difficult to tell from the picture but I would suspect that this is some sort of parasite or larva of a parasite that has infected the skin. If you are able to remove them I would do that, then clean the area. If you do remove them, take one with you to the vet so it can be examined. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It's hard to make out where the white object attaches to her skin. Dog and cats can form keratinized horny growths on their skin. I recommend making an appointment with your Vet to have it removed. If it is small enough maybe they can remove it with a local block. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

I'm not sure, but it's not a flea and it's not a tick. If thet seem to be biting Cody, you keep finding lots of them, or he's getting itchy, it would be worth saving one and giving a pest control service a call, but otherwise I'd recommend removing it and not worrying about it. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What I noticed on those pictures is two small growths (1 in each ear). These could be benign or malignant growths. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. I wonder if that's a foreign body of some sort, like a pricker, but I can't be sure without seeing her in person. It doesn't look like a piece of bone.
