Why is my 3-month-old pitbull puppy hunched and yelping when touched?

Sweet puppy! If he is yelping then I would be concerned about him being in pain. He looks like it may be neck or back pain. Make sure he is still eating and drinking. If he is in a lot of pain, he may not. There are no human meds you can give as most are toxic to dogs. I would recommend to have your vet examine him and see exactly where he may be pain and prescribe him some pain medications that are safe for him. I hope this helps!

Muscle weakness in the hindlimbs is commonly seen with hip or spinal arthritis and i recommend scheduling xrays to have him assessed as soon as possible. Your vet can also prescribe pain medication to relieve the immediate discomfort until fully investigated

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Okie. It sounds like he is painful. Has there been any history of recent trauma? If not, he could be experiencing neck or back pain. Another consideration is if he has a developmental bone/joint disease. It is sometimes difficult in puppies as they can cry in response to a behavioral issue as opposed to being painful. Try to keep him quiet before his appointment so that he does not exacerbate anything in case he is painful. Be sure to not give any over-the-counter pain medication as these can be toxic to dogs. Poor Baby! It definitely sounds like she's painful somewhere. In my experience, the most common cause of yelping or yipping when touched or petted is back pain, often due to a herniated disc - this is a fairly common problem in dogs. She could also be painful due to some other injury to her legs or back. I would recommend having her examined by a vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can do a thorough exam to help localize the source of the pain, and may also do x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Blue! Common causes of pain when small dogs are picked up are: neck and back pain for forelimb pain. If this is new and he is also jumping up less, shivering or tremoring and not using the stairs I would take him in to the Vet this week for an exam as that indicates pain. Other reasons for crying when picked up is arthritis or being scared or surprised. So try to go slowly and gently if he is otherwise acting normal. Good luck!

It could be a muscular injury or sprain. I would leave the area alone and monitor for the next few hours, if she seems to be in discomfort best to have her checked over so can get some pain relief . If she is already in quite a bit of pain best to have her checked over sooner rather than later.

I would contact your veterinarian to see if they can give you more assistance. I recommend making an appointment for her so they can find the source of her pain and get her the correct treatment. They may need to take x-rays to rule out a fracture. In the meantime, I would rest her in a kennel so she doesn't continue to injure herself.
