Why is my Pit Bull losing hair in random spots all over his body?

My male Pit Bull is loosing hair in random spots all over his body. I don't know what to do please help

My concern with K.D. would be a couple of things. Young pit bulls are prone to developing mange, and it often causes random spots of hair loss just like you're seeing. If he's not itchy, it's likely the demodectic variety of mange, which sometimes will resolve on its own if there's just a spot or two. However, if you're seeing multiple locations of hair loss, it's likely he'll need treatment. Sometimes these guys have secondary bacterial skin infections as well which need antibiotics. Unfortunately these things need to be prescribed by a vet, who can also scrape the skin and verify that this is in fact mange. If it's not mange it could be fleas, or possibly a nutritional deficiency, but I'd consider both of those less likely. Get him checked out so that you can get him on the proper treatment.

Nice looking dog! Unfortunately, without doing a test called a skin scraping, there is no way to know if your dog has an infectious skin disease going on. In my part of the world, allergies are more common in pit bulls than scabies, but in a tropical area you may very well be dealing with both, or a combination of scabies, allergies, and a bacterial skin infection. You might be best off treating him with an antibacterial, anti-parasitic skin shampoo first if you don't have the funds to pay for a veterinary visit. If this doesn't help, you really need to see a vet to figure out what is going on and how to treat him. Sorry, but we just can't figure this out with a picture alone. Best of luck!

The lesions shown in the pictures are suggestive of a skin infection. Skin infections can occur secondary to allergies, mange or fleas. I would recommend that you have Negra seen by your veterinarian. They may recommend antibiotics or a medicated shampoo to resolve the infection. They can also work with you to determine the underlying cause so you can prevent it in the future.

If you are seeing round areas of hair loss, this could be due to ringworm, a bacterial skin infection or potentially skin parasites such as Demodex. I would have this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!

My Pitbull is losing hair and itching on his back. What should I do?

Poor Axle! I'm sorry to hear that he's having skin problems. There are a number of different things that can cause hair loss with itching in dogs - some common possibilities would include allergies (food allergies, or an allergy to something in the environment), a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). Treatment will depend on what the underlying problem is, so I would really recommend having Axle examined by a vet to get a diagnosis first. He/she can do some simple skin tests if needed to help determine what is causing the hair loss, and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat the problem depending on what is found. In the meantime, you could try bathing him in an aloe and oatmeal dog shampoo to help soothe his skin - this will not treat the underlying problem, but may temporarily relieve his symptoms and make him a bit more comfortable until you can see the vet.

Is it normal for my pit bull puppy to have short hair, balding, and bumps?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It’s hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like there is a skin infection on Noheas head. An infection could cause bumps and hair loss. A common cause of skin infections in young pit bulls is mange (demodex). These are microscopic mites that don’t cause scratching. I recommend taking Nohea to a vet for a close exam of her skin. They will need to look at cells under the microscope to diagnose this. They can then get her medications to treat the infection and mites if needed. Good luck and kisses to Nohea!

My Pitbull has bald spots, red bumps, and isn't eating. What's wrong?

I would be worried about an staph infection on the skin or a form of the mange known as demodex or red mange. They can cause thinning hair and baldness with scales and scabs. You can bath him to help but you will need to see your regular vet to see which it is as they have very different treatments. His appetite may be decreased because he is feeling bad from the skin problem and it is making him miserable.

My pitbull puppy has pink hairless spots. What should I do about them?

These spots could be due to a underlying skin infection or a skin mite called demodex. If there are only the 3 small spots you can try to treat them topically at home with neosporin. If they sites do not resolve or if you begin to notice more spots I would recommend taking Maddox to the vet to be checked out. Why is my pit bull getting skin spots and losing hair in hot weather?

Hi, it seems like Rincon may have gotten into something he is allergic to. I would make sure they are both on flea and tick prevention first, and if not, treat them with a topical purchased at a pet store or from a vet. If this does not resolve the problem, you can try an antihistamine like Benadryl. There may be an insect or type of plant he is allergic to. This may be repeated whenever the bumps come up. IF this does not resolve it, take him to a vet for a skin exam. Good luck, i hope this helps!
