Yes, check with your local PetCo to get their veterinary schedule. I work at one clinic and we provide free exams and offer vaccination packages. Some shelters will have an affiliation program with nearby veterinary clinics where the clinic will provide you with a free examination to establish yourself there. I would ask the shelters if they have such a program. When going to the veterinarian, I would ensure that you are looking at preventative care (heartworm and flea / tick prevention). Unfortunately, there are no veterinary clinics located in Petco stores in your area - yet. You can get vaccinations done at Vetco vaccination clinics, as well as heartworm and flea and tick prevention. Be sure you get Tars in before he is 6 months of age, and he won't need a heartworm test. He should also be dewormed against intestinal parasites.
