Does pet insurance cover my dog's blood tests and medications?

Proceeding with allergy testing would be a good idea though please consider other possible allergies other than environmental allergies which allergies testing would help with. This may be covered by your insurance though that is highly dependent on which one you have. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

This is not exactly how it works, there is an excess amount that needs to be paid for each and every medical condition that your fog has, once this amount is passed everything else is covered. but the excess amount is NOT the same as your annual payment, it is different from plan to plan it usually varies between 75$-200$. this should be written on your policy (look for "excess"), if you can't find it give a call to petplan and they will let you know what the amount is.

If your dog was vaccinated against Leptospirosis in the past year then the insurance company should cover it, if he wasn't vaccinated then they might not cover it but you need to check it directly with them to make sure.

Depending on your dog and her lifestyle, pet insurance can be worth it. Unfortunately, pet insurance is worth the most for accidents and illnesses. Often the plans do not cover routine health care, but some plans do. Most plans also have a variety of options, so you can decrease the cost of the plan by decreasing the coverage. I have a number of clients that use Trupanion who has covered $10,000 bills without any questions. But those owners have a higher premium than some of the other companies who may not cover the same amount. I wish I could give you a clear answer, but for young dogs, I think a moderate plan for the first year is always a good idea. That will give you a good idea about if you think the plan is worth it long term. I would recommend contacting 3 companies and compare what they cover, your deductible, and your monthly cost. If I had to chose a few, I would compare Trupanion, PetPlan and Nationwide, but there are other good companies out there too. I hope that was helpful. There are many pet insurances available right now, and they are all slightly different in coverage and how you are reimbursed for medical issues. Most will require that you pay the vet the full bill, and then will reimburse you a percentage of the cost of the bill, so keep in mind that you will still need to be able to pay the vet bill at the time of service. Hello, and thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear about Devon's nails. The problem could be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection, mites, or an immune-mediated disorder. Some insurance companies will cover the examination cost, but not all. I would give Petplan a call to find out. When you do take Devon to the vet, they may recommend a cytology test to examine the nail bed for signs of infection. They can prescribe antibiotics if they suspect a bacterial infection, and anti-inflammatory meds to help with pain and inflammation. In the meantime, you could try soaking his feet in a shallow bath of epsom salts (diluted in lukewarm water), for 10 minutes a day, which may help to temporarily relieve inflammation as well.
