Is Orijen dog food safe and suitable for my pregnant German Shepherd?

Be sure to feed her the puppy formula instead of the adult formula during her pregnancy as she will require a boost of calories, calcium, and other minerals to keep her strong during her pregnancy and during lactation (once the puppies arrive). Hi there and thanks for posting again! Either Royal Canin or Orijen are excellent choices! You really can't go wrong with either. Orijen may be a little more expensive, however, but a very high quality food.

In my personal opinion Orijen is the best commercial food on the market or at the very least a top 5 food, i have been using it for my pets for many years and have been recommending it for years as well.

Yes , It looks like a good quality puppy food so should be good. Bear in mind it is important that your dog switch dog food gradually from his current dog food to avoid digestive upset or tummy trouble. To transition, mix your dog's current food with his new food. Over 5-7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current dog food while increasing the amount of new dog food.

I don't recommend to feed this food. All life stages food is not developed specifically for puppies. That means it may not contain the best amounts of DHA and other supplements needed for brain, nerve and bone development. Additionally, due to a suspected link with heart disease, most veterinarians do not recommend feeding a grain free diet. Grains very rarely are a cause of allergies in pets. Instead feed a puppy food from a diet that is balanced. Many quality brands include Royala Canin, Science Diet and Purina ProPlan. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. It could be related to the pregnancy as the puppies are occupying more space in the abdomen. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. Choose a good quality food with a named protein source. Avoid meat meals and by products. Stay away from store or discount brands. These typically contain low quality ingredients an dmore fillers.
