My dog is in pain. Can an online vet prescribe medication remotely?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 11 years old | 80 lbs

Is there an online vet that can prescribed my 80# Pittie a pain meds? We are out of state, a drive of 20 hours, which caused her already "comprised " hind quarters to be and now remain in pain. Also is licking/scratching her butt now. We have tried for over four days now to get in touch with our vet (who apparently was bought out, but kept same personnel and maintained our records) to return our daily calls and emails. We don't have money for a comprehensive workout with a new vet, 20 hours

I am sorry to hear about your dog! Unfortunately a veterinarian cannot legally prescribe you pain medication without examining your dog within the past year, so we cannot prescribe any medication through our online service. I would look into finding out if there is a low cost option for veterinary services in your area, such as a humane society or APL/APA.
