Why is my old dog vomiting, has stomach pain, and high urea?

Throwing up bile is quite concerning, and her ulcers may be acting up despite the medication. It could be she needs a higher dose of her medication, but I cannot advise making any change to her medication without seeing her in person. She also should not be peeing while on Proin, so I'm wondering if she has a UTI causing the urinating. She does need to see a vet for these issues. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. I am so very sorry you lost Charlie. Unfortunately without having the complete medical history of Charlie I can only make an educated guess. Liver disease is the most common reason for higher than normal levels of ALT. In an old dog like Charlie this could be a sign of a liver tumor or chronic liver disease or a sign of Cushing's disease which often is caused by a brain tumor. The seizures could have been caused by a brain tumor or liver failure. Urea is made when protein is broken down in the body. ... If the kidneys are not able to remove urea from the blood normally, the BUN level rises. Heart failure, dehydration, or a diet high in protein can also make the BUN level higher. So it appeas that Charlie was very ill with liver, kidney and possibly heart failure. By deciding to have him euthanized, you gave him the gift of not having to suffer. It is the the last and best gift you could have given him and you should not feel guilty. He is a happy chappy now and you did the right thing. Again I am sorry you lost Charlie, but I hope I could ease your mind a bit.

The BUN could be elevated due to dehydration. This can occur with gastritis and an ulcer. If your dog has an ulcer that can be painful or can perforate or cause blood loss. All of these can cause weakness that can appear as no being able to walk well. If he is happy and bright otherwise and just having problems with his back legs he could have spinal compression or degenerative myelopathy. Back pain can sometimes look like stomach pain. I would have him reassessed in any of these circumstances

Elevated BUN (uraemia) in itself is associated with nausea and vomiting and the underlying cause should be investigated. Dehydration as a result of vomiting, intestinal bleeding, obstructive bladder stones, fever, diabetes and kidney disease can all contribute - a thorough urine analysis would be recommended. Fluid therapy would be advised as soon as a urine sample has been obtained in order to try and reduce levels but urine production must be monitored closely to prevent overhydration if kidneys are not able to function well

I am sorry to hear about Bruno! With his symptoms going on for several days and his age, I would recommend bringing him into the vet for an examination as soon as possible. There are MANY possible causes for vomiting in dogs https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/ ranging from ingesting some food that starts a bout of pancreatitis (which can result in decreased appetite and vomiting) to infections to tumors to other internal diseases such as liver or kidney issues. The vet will perform a physical examination and will likely recommend diagnostic testing such as x-rays and bloodwork to try to determine what is causing Bruno's illness and how best to treat it. Treatment will depend on the cause but often includes injectable medication to help with vomiting/nausea and fluids with an IV to help with dehydration.

If Buddy seems off and is whimpering and vomiting, he may have something going on causing him discomfort. Because of his age, I would be suspicious of a viral infection, something he ate that he is having an indiscretion to or a foreign object he ate that is lodged somewhere in his intestines causing problems. Because there are multiple causes and it is difficult to determine what it is for sure, I would have a veterinarian examine Buddy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I noticed in one of those pictures that his stool is really diarrhea and is black (which usually means a sign of bleeding). Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. In addition, black stools can be indicative of bleeding into the small intestine or stomach which can happen secondary to an ulcer for instance. Bloody urine can be the result of an infection, stones, tumors, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration.
