My old dog has uterine discharge and isn't eating. Can she be saved?

Spaying (ovariohysterectomy) is likely the best treatment. If the infection is limited to the reproductive tract, then removing the organ is the most efficient way of removing the problem. This surgery shouldn't lead to spread of infection if done properly since the uterus is removed completely without needing to cut into it.

I am very concerned that Willow may have pyometra (an infection in her uterus). This type of infection can be life-threatening and typically requires surgery to remove the uterus which is the source of the infection. I would recommend taking her to your vet right away so she can be evaluated for this disease.

No, that is not normal. She should be put on broad spectrum antibiotics. There may be an infection in the uterine tissue that is remaining in the abdomen (stump pyometra). A second surgery may be needed to remove the infective tissue. The bloodwork shows a high white blood cell count indicating infection. Some of her liver enzymes are mildly elevated but I don't think they are significant at this time. She needs to be evaluated for a stump pyometra. If there is a discolored discharge, then she will need to see a vet. If there is an infected uterus, antibiotics keep it at bay but generally do not clear it completely. Often times surgery to spay her is indicated along with antibiotics. IF it goes untreated it can make her very ill and be life threatening.

If she has a uterine infection, she needs to have surgery to have the uterus removed. Without doing so, the infection could be fatal. Surgery does have risks, but the sooner she has surgery (before she starts getting more sick) the stronger she will be to get through surgery and recovery.
