Old dog can't stand, has accidents. When is it time to say goodbye?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 14 years and 3 months old

hi, my 14 year plus chocolate lab isn't able to poo standing up any more, also he's doing it in his sleep. He's on medication for his back legs, they have wasted away. He can still get up but obviously struggles, what is your opinion?

I think you need to start thinking about his quality of life. It may be time to start considering putting him to sleep. I know it is a difficult decision but you need to do what is best for him. Hopefully these links will help you:
