Is my old dog jealous or sick after we brought home a new puppy?

I'm sorry Leo isn't doing well at the moment! Given that both dogs have respiratory infection, his symptoms could be due to that. Respiratory infections cause a dog to be lethargic as well as have a decrease in appetite. Vomiting can occur with a respiratory infection because a dog can cough a lot leading to that happening. Diarrhea, however, isn't typically seen with a respiratory infection, and that could be caused by intestinal worms. Puppies typically care them, and if Leo hasn't been dewormed lately, he could have gotten them from your new puppy. Finally, I'm not sure if Leo has been fully vaccinated or not, but if he hasn't, his symptoms could be caused by parvovirus or distemper. Both are highly contagious and very serious. I don't think Leo is being jealous, I think he is legitimately ill. Because I can't see him in person to rule out something serious like parvo or distemper and because I don't know his vaccination status, I do think having him seen by a vet sooner rather than later is best. It's concerning he hasn't eaten or had much water in at least 24 hours, and it needs to be checked out by a vet. Please bring him into a vet today. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I recommend that she sees her veterinarian though to ensure there is not an illness contributing to her lack of appetite. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. I doubt this was from bringing in the new dog. There are a lot of other things that could have happened and it is most likely coincidence that it happened shortly after you brought in the new puppy. I wish I had a definitive answer for you, but without an autopsy there is no way to know for sure. Please know you are in my thoughts.

If Bruno has had diarrhea and decrease appetite for 3 days I would recommend a visit to the vet. A young pup may have parasites, viral disease or a foreign body that can cause diarrhea. But at his age he can become debilitated quickly when sick so a vet visit at this point is probably a good idea. I hope he recovers quickly.

She could simply be moping because of the new puppy. But there could be a medical reason: lyme disease, metabolic diseases (liver/kidney), viral infections, fever, foreign body ingestion or cancer. Watch her closely for any changes like vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, limping, etc. Try adding boiled chicken or hamburger to her dog food to tempt her to eat. Try taking her outside for her favorite activity with out the puppy-a nice walk, swim in the creek, dog park or play ball. See if that cheers her up! I hope this helps and good luck!

I would be worried about a 10 month old puppy not eating. This is obviously abnormal. I suggest you get him to a vet for an examination. Not eating is not a specific sign of any one disease process or illness so therefore there is not much I can recommend. Literally anything can cause inappetence. The most common reasons in a puppy: 1. viral disease (like parvo) 2. intestinal parasites (worms) 3. intestinal blockage 4. bacterial infection You need to get this sorted out before he gets even more sick from not eating. Adding a new dog into the house can be stressful for the existing dog, and that could be a reason why he is less interested in food. Having a puppy is time consuming, and you may accidentally be paying more attention to the puppy than Grizzly. I would recommend making sure you have special one on one time with Grizzly, and see if that helps with his stress. There could also be a medical reason behind him being less interested in his food, such as a dental problem. Due to that, I do recommend taking him into your vet for a health check just to be sure there isn't a medical reason behind this sudden disinterest in food.
