My old dog pees inside, drinks lots. Can she still be spayed?

These signs are usually related either to urinary tract infection, or to kidney problem (failure) or to urinary incontinence. A blood test and urine analysis can rule out kidney failure and urinary tract infection. Urinary incontinence usually derived from a weak urinary sphincter (quite common in old age females). This is very concerning as PU/PD (drinking and urinating more than usual) and not eating, especially in an older intact female can be a sign of a uterine infection , which in turn can be life threatening. I strongly recommend you have Darla examined by your veterinarian. Your vet will want to do some blood work and possibly x-rays to see whether her uterus is filled with pus.

I recommend a geriatric blood panel. It's for senior dogs to check for a range of illnesses. I also recommend a urinalysis and possibly an x-ray. I see that Dahlia is not spayed, and her symptoms could be cause by a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment.

In an older dog, this could be caused by something like diabetes or kidney disease. Having Violet seen by a vet tomorrow is a very good idea. The vet can do a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis to check for the things I mentioned above. I hope this helps.

I would have your veterinarian evaluate Daphane's urine in case she has another urinary tract infection (UTI). That can cause an increase in water intake, urgency to urinate and burning while urinating or leaking urine. It would also be a good idea to check some bloodwork. Hopefully all that's going on is a UTI and some antibiotics will have her back to normal shortly. Good luck!

If she is drinking or urinating more than usual, she should be seen by your veterinarian. Given her age, blood work should be done to assess major organ function, especially kidney function. Dogs can have kidney disease but show no symptoms until kidney function is greatly reduced. If diagnosed early, it may be managed.
