What are these sores on my nursing dog's lips after giving birth?

That lesion looks very inflamed. It’s possible it’s a reaction to something he chewed on but an infection is also possible. I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian to rule out something more severe like a tooth root abscess. He may also get medication to help heal the lesion. Best of luck.

It is difficult to say what might be causing the sores without seeing what they look like and where exactly they are located, but one possibility might be that the lower teeth are cutting into the upper lip due to the teeth being misaligned (malocclusion). Is there anything she could have chewed on to cause that inflammation in the corners, mainly electrical cords? It seems very raw and blistered but does not appear infected by that picture. All you can do is clean the area with soap and water as any other topicals will just get ingested. If it is not better in a day or so take her to your vet for an exam to see why it is not clearing

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sores on the lip can be caused by many different factors, but most likely is she chewed on something that has caused a wound. Other possible causes are immune diseases that attach the junction between the lip and the haired skin, however this is very unlikely given her age and the localized region. It does look like the wound might be infected however, so getting it seen by a vet to see if antibiotics are required is a good idea. If it doesn't bother her, and she is eating/drinking ok, then you can try just keeping it clean with a salt-water solution, and monitor. If it looks better every day then keep monitoring, but if it isn't better after a couple days, or looks worse at all, then bring her to a vet right away. Do not apply any medications/creams, just keep it clean with salt-water. If she is pawing/scratching at it then an E-collar to prevent more trauma can help it heal, and if it is bothering her getting it seen by a vet is a good idea. Best of luck with Ozzy!

If you are talking about her mouth I am sure she is fine as long as it isn't swollen and she is eating and acting normal. If it becomes swollen or persists then take her to your Vet to have her examined. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank your for sending those pictures. The areas around her chin and body do look inflamed and infected. This may be due to a bacterial infection, mite infection, or due to an underlying allergy. I would recommend she see her veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinarian may do skin scraping to check for mites and may prescribe a course of antibiotics or other medications as necessary. Your veterinarian may also send you home with topical antimicrobial wipes and shampoo as well. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Thank you for your question. I think that she appears completely fine. It is normal to see a little skin irritation and what is visible in the photos is not worrisome. The puppies nails can scratch her and that is most likely the cause. As the start to develop teeth, watch for more serious problems, but so far she looks good.
