Why is my Newfoundland dog drooling excessively with a runny nose?

Drooling can be a sign of nausea and this with a decreased activity level can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Rufus evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. This could be due to nausea or dental problems. Given that this is a continuing issues, I would suspect that Ruby may have a dental problem causing this excessive drooling. The best thing to do is have her seen by a vet for this. The vet can diagnose if she does have dental problem, and can treat her for it.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Colds are typically not transmissible between dogs and humans, so I think this is unlikely. The drooling may be a sign of nausea, or pain in the mouth. Are you able to see if there is anything stuck in his mouth? If his appetite and energy are low, or if he seems anxious or in distress, I would take him to the vet today.
