Is it normal for my new rescue dog to sleep 20 hours and not play?

At 24 days old a puppy should be sleeping and eating, urinating and defecating. That is all they do at this age. Ideally Bee should still be with his mother st this age. If he is not he needs to be bottle fed every few hours with puppy formula. If he is too lethargic to nurse he needs a veterinarian exam. But give it time he will start playing in a month or two.

It also takes some time for them to get used to their new environment. I would give him more time for him to come along especially since he is otherwise doing so well. If at any point he develops symptoms of illness such as vomiting, diarrhea or inappetence, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Congrats on your new dog! How lovely of you to adopt a dog from the pound, you likely saved Jay's life. Given that he would not sleep at the pound, he is probably very exhausted and needs a good sleep. Because he's had tests run and they have all come back normal, I wouldn't be too worried about this behavior. Let him sleep, and I bet he will wake up when he's hungry. Hello. It certainly is possible that this is normal for Chi. If her eating/drinking habits have not changed, she seems well, no coughing or problems eliminating, then I would not be too concerned. If he is eating and drinking well, with no vomiting or diarrhea, then it does not sound abnormal. Some dogs are just more energetic than others However, if this behavior is new, then I would consult your vet for testing. If their thyroid is low then it can lead to lethargy and may be contributing.
