My new puppy is aggressive, biting, growling. Why doesn't she love me?

Food aggression or toy aggression is a common behavioral concern that can often be worked through. I would recommend hand feeding Sadie for each meal and teach her to “wait for it” before allowing her to eat. Once she is sitting and listening then allow her to eat. Start with a small amount in your hand, then put some in her bowl from your hand, then desensitize her to your hand in her bowl. I would also train her to “wait for it” for any toys she may love. If she is food motivated then she will associate this training with lots of reward and will learn not to “guard” her food or toys. If she is fully vaccinated then she is at a great age to begin puppy kindergarten. These classes are a great way to bond with her, establish boundries, and strengthen your relationship.

This can be very common behavior for young puppies. It is important that you initiate training with your dog now so that his aggressive tendencies do not continue into adulthood. Somethings you can do to discourage his nipping and aggressive behavior are to try and redirect his aggression by giving him a toy to play with and bite on instead of using your hands and fingers. Also, when he missed behaves firmly tell him no, put him down and walk away and ignore him for 2 to 3 minutes. After that time you can start playing with him again and if his bad behavior returns ignore him again. If you continue to do this he will quickly learn that when he misbehaves you will not pay attention to him so he should stop the bad behavior. It would also be beneficial to start training him with basic commands like sit, stay, and come. This will help establish your role as the dominant one in the relationship. Also be sure he is getting plenty of exercise by taking him on 20 to 30 minute fast-paced walks at least 2 to 3 times a day. Because Milo is still so young there is definitely time to correct her aggressive behavior. You should start with basic training commands (sit/stay/come) to help establish the fact that you are the one in charge. It is also important to make sure she is getting plenty of exercise. Remember that, while you thought about this dog and bringing her into your home, all she knows is that one day she was Here, and the next day she was THERE, with no warning or explanation. Ollie cries and doesn't listen to you because she is still just a little baby. She may be having some minor adjustments in terms of being away from her mom and littermates, but mostly puppies are just crying out because they want attention or some resource. She is biting right now because she is in the teething phase of her development. Simply make sure she has ample toys and items to destroy. You should always keep one on your person to make sure you can hand it to her if she starts to bite something inappropriate. If she takes the toy instead, make sure to reward her appropriately. In time and with consistency, she will eventually chew on only the items that you have given to her. The more you train her and the more consistent you are, the more likely she is going to listen to you in the long term. She mostly isn't listening to you yet because she doesn't really know any commands yet at this age. Depending on what you plan on utilizing your puppy for, the most basic of commands are likely all that is required for a suitable household companion.
