Will neutering an aggressive whippet with undescended testicle help?

Often times a few to several weeks after a castration their behavior changes dramatically in terms of less aggression. However, this may not resolve the issue. If it does not, I would highly recommend you seek help from a veterinary behaviorist or dog trainer who can help you in person as those issues do require some hands on training but they are fixable most of the time. Injectable sedation or general anesthesia might be in Hercules’s best interest, and neutering could make a big difference in his behavior. Each ‘scary’ experience at the vet builds on the next, so if he is getting worked up on oral sedatives alone he needs more sedation. You could ask your vet about trying an oral sedative in addition to the gabapentin and you could also work on training him to use a basket muzzle for safety. You could also look for a hospital that specializes in ‘Fear Free’ handling techniques but I will tell you that these hospitals are usually pretty liberal with their use of injectable sedative because the outcomes are so much better fo the pets. What a great idea and responsible thing for you to do to get your puppy neutered! Unfortunately, I highly doubt many of the experts on the site know specific vets in Albuquerque, NM as we are from all over the world (I personally live in New Zealand), so I recommend speaking to friends who have pets to see who they feel is an excellent vet to get the surgery done. 4 Paws Pet Hospital, Aztec Animal Clinic, and Del Norte Animal Clinic all have high ratings on the web, so you may want to check them out. Poor Douglas! This sounds like a difficult surgical recovery. It sounds as though Douglas had not fully recovered from anesthesia at the time of his discharge. It is possible that the reaction that you saw was an excitement reaction from some of the sedative or pain medications he was given at the time of surgery. While this is not a normal reaction, it is also not uncommon to see a brief period of excitement after certain medications. Confirm that Douglas was sent home with some anti-inflammatory pain medications and be sure to find out when his next dose of pain medication is due, as he could be whimpering as a sign of pain. Otherwise, continue to keep him in the crate until he is able to stand and walk normally, and generally restrict his activity until his sutures are removed. Make sure that he is wearing an e-collar (cone) for the next 10-14 days to prevent him from licking at the incision. I hope that the rest of his recovery is uneventful!

She could be painful or not feel well and she is acting out because of that. It is better for her health to be spayed, she is at risk for an infected uterus which is an expensive surgical emergency. Hormones can affect temperament, so it MAY help but it might not be the solution. If her exam and blood work are normal, you can have her spayed then consider training and medications to control her aggression. I hope this helps and I wish you and Bella the very best!

Castration can help with aggressive behavior, and I would schedule that surgery with Murphy's vet. He also needs to see a professional behavioral expert. He is dog aggressive, and this is something that needs to be worked with as soon as possible before he really hurts another dog. He also has the potential to hurt another human being. I never recommend that owners work with aggressive dogs on their for their safety, so speak to your vet about a recommendation to a professional behavioral expert. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

If that is not corrected after surgery or you prefer not to spay her, I would highly suggest a qualified dog trainer or behaviorist that can help you with this in person.
